Dr. Brenda Burke is an outstanding rheumatologist who I highly recommend. I had been suffering with severe joint pain from psoriatic arthritis and within two appointments all pain has disappeared, my joints are back to normal and my fingers are no longer red and scaling. Dr. Burke took the time to assist (was not rushed), asked excellent questions, performed a thorough examination and made a precise diagnosis. She is a genius, has zero ego, (rare with many doctors) and demonstrates a professional bedside manner.

I went to Dr. Burke at the request of my GP, even though I have a rheumatologist for my fibromyalgia, as I had an elevated ANA and he wanted a second opinion. She, and her PA, began the appointment stating they don’t treat fibromyalgia, which is not why I was there. She proceeded, however, to tell me everything I was doing and the meds I was on were not proven to help fibromyalgia regardless of the fact that they are helping me. When I told her that she actually told me no, they aren’t. I think I know after 30 years what helps and what doesn’t. She tried to tell me I should go off the few meds I was on with no regard to how that might affect my day to day life. I wondered why she would state all that after telling me she doesn’t treat my condition, so how would she even know? She was dismissive, rude and unprofessional. She decided not to do additional blood work for my elevated ANA, even though that was I was there. She made sure to tell me though that she preferred telling her… patients the hard to take facts up front, which I appreciate, but she does it with out any compassion. She even questioned my family history as if I was lying. I literally left there in tears as the appointment was that bad and a complete waste of time. I have seen many doctors over the course of my 57 years and she is, by far, the worst.

This is going back about 12 years when I was referred to Dr. Burke. I was a 21 year old with symptoms of lupus, but she didn’t believe it was. She very quickly dismissed me due to my “age”. I mean, when you call in your secretary in the room and say “I don’t know- what do you think? I don’t think I see symptoms”? The ignorance! I was diagnosed soon after with another physician out of Boston. My body just wasn’t right- and I didn’t respond like it should to many easy things. I’m now 33 and I still have my good and bad days. It’s sad that she is still practicing with that attitude it seems. Horrible bedside manor.

The first time I saw Dr. Burke (back in 2011 or 2012), she didn't believe I had RA....even though the symptoms were there, and my Sister was SEVERELY deformed by RA from years of not being treated. To make a long story shorter, Dr. Burke did diagnose me with RA, and naturally, I was devastated. But to her it was no big deal, and she left me to my own defenses to learn whatever I could about this horrible disease. I didn't tolerate any of the meds she prescribed (I'm highly sensitive to meds), so instead of researching some other options for me, or consulting a colleague/website, she just took the "Wait & See" attitude. My VET took more of an interest in my severely sick CAT who had a compicated medical history before he passed on in 2013, (consulting out-of-state colleages, etc.) than my own doctors take in me! That doesn't go over well with me-especially given the seriousness of what RA can do to your whole body, and I even showed her photos of my SEVERELY deformed Sister's… hands/fingers, feet/toes, and huge nodules on her elbows! Dr. Burke even admitted she had never seen such an advanced case. But STILL she chose to do NOTHING to help me! I have a lot of medical issues to go along with RA, so I realize I am difficult to treat. But any good doctor either would have researched ideas or sent me to a doctor that specializes in tough cases. To me, a doctor should LISTEN to what you're saying (without talking to you like you don't know your own body), and should work closely WITH you to find the right treatment. It shouldn't just be whatever the doctor says goes...regardless if the patient agrees or not! I've had many doctors like Dr. Burke, unfortunately. It's SO frustrating to have all these medical problems (along with STRONG family history of serious health problems), and not one doctor cares enough to work with me to try to PREVENT what has happened to my family members! By the way, my precious Sister just recently passed on from her many medical issues....some of them caused by untreated RA. :'( I'm still tring to find a new Rheumatologist and other doctors I need that MIGHT just care about ME as a patient and a person, and not just about the almighty dollar!

Dr. Burke does not "listen" to her patients.... I have never "reviewed" any MD online. However, my experience with Dr. Burke was awful. She appears to be offended if you have a medical background and ask appropriate questions. I now see a rheumatologist in Providence who has taken me off the harshest drugs that were prescribed by Dr. Burke..... And I am doing well... Find a MD that will listen to your concerns..... Not one who is interested in prescribing the most drugs for your condition...... My husband, who is a truly kind and compassionate man.....has Nothing "kind" to say about Ms. Burke.......

Dr. Burke apparently has powers unaware to medical community, she took one look at me and said," I did not have arthritis."She was very unprofessional her biggest concern was that I should go back to my primary care who couldn't make a diagnosis even if he tried. I would recommend going to anyone else but her.

Dr. Burke will receive four stars from this reviewer. If a zero rating were permissible it would be given. I was diagnosed with Palindromic Rheumatoid Arthritis and placed on Methotrexate. I informed Dr. that flare ups happened more frequently and spasm of the muscle appeared. I asked if Methotrexate was my only option, to which she responded..."methotrexate is a great drug". Not only did she fail to answer my question but did not even consider the concerns I had.

Dr. Burke was very thorough and took her time with me. Asked all the right questions and LISTENED to my answers. I have very little pain since her treatments. I would recommend her in an instant.

Without a doubt, one of the best doctors I have ever had dealings with. I would highly recommend her to any of my friends and will always utilize her services.
