Dr. Bret J Spier, MD

Couldn't be mire pleased with Dr Spier's service. He is really nice and patient. He always responds to patient's questions with clear and detailed response.

Like everything about Dr. Spier, but his office needs major improvement, never get thru to a live person, takes them days to return your call (if ever). I blame IU Health for this, they are severely understaffed. You could die on hold listening to "your call is very important to use, please stay on the line..."

I notice some patients saying that they felt he had "no interest" in them. I would disagree. I would say that he just has a rather low-key style, which worked very well for me, but which may put off patients who like a fuss made of them. I personally appreciated Dr. Spier's calm manner, and I had no doubt of his expertise.

This is a place of such respect. They took such great care of me all staff and Dr. Pinto also. Thank you Bloomington endoscopy for such an unwanted exam this place treated me great.

Took almost 2 months to get an appointment. Once I got in, he spent less than 10 minutes with me, asked a few questions, and didn't even examine me. Scheduled a series of tests. When test #1 came back abnormal (indicating a health problem that can have MANY possible causes, and is likely to affect me in significant ways for the rest of my life ) -- the office called me, scheduled another test, and I was told to buy and read a book. After the second test, the office called and left a voicemail saying the test was normal, and I should call if I had questions. I called to see when he wanted to see me again and what more follow-up was needed. I was told, again, by the office staff, to buy and read the book. That's it. End of interaction. Calls to the office always involve long periods spent on hold, and be shuttled from desk to desk.

I had an absolutely horrible experience with Dr. Spier's office. Not him directly, but I feel that he must take responsibility for how his office functions. He had seen me in 2016 for gastro problems. No source was found and the problems pretty much went away. Last week (February 2017) I started passing everything through within a few hours of consuming them. After the fifth day I called Dr. Spier's office. It was 4:00 on a Friday. I knew I wouldn't be able to get in to see him so the specific question I had was "should I go to the hospital or a walk in clinic." The person on the phone said that a nurse would call me right back. After four hours I called a 360.com "Ask a Nurse" line. They careful asked me questions and then said "if your symptoms worsen overnight, go to the emergency room, otherwise see a doctor at a walking clinic in the morning." I did. Problem solved. Monday morning Dr. Spier's calls me, I guess to see if I had died. The woman on the phone said that Dr. Spier's had… been "unavailable." I suggested that maybe some might have wanted to tell me that.

It is always great to wait two months for an appointment when you are feeling horrible. Even better when you can't get a follow up scheduled. It is perfect when it takes multiple days/ a week to get an answer from the nurse on medication. Many more examples of poor communication or lack of. Get ready to jump through hoops to get any help. As you can tell I'm frustrated.

After having my gallbladder removed, I was still experiencing a lot of pain. No other doctors could figure out what was wrong. Dr. Spier got me in immediately and discussed options with me. Writing it out on the bed paper and even drawing pictures so that I had a clear understanding. Tests were ordered and HE personally called me early one morning to tell me the results! He was excited that it was the least the best option! Dr. Spier did two scopes on me at two different times and always took a personal interest in my health. At that time I was having other health concerns and he always took the time to hear what was happening and wanted to know who was treating me and how. I cannot recommend him high enough!!!
