As someone who works in the same profession, Dr. Hocking was not well regarded. A number of patients experienced unethical treatment and later sought therapy from his treatment. It is my belief he has caused significant harm. There were a number of complaints filed and unfortunately the process took longer than it should have. As of today he is no longer able to practice in the state of Virginia. See Reddit for more information.

Thank you to the person who finally turned in Brian Hocking for unprofessional conduct, among other things. (See license lookup on VA Dept of Health Professions website) As I read the violations and specifics of the case, I realized that it could have been written by me as the exact same thing happened during my 'therapy'. I wish I had been strong enough to file the report myself. He is no longer able to destroy lives...... hallelujah.

In a word: HORRIBLE. Yells, is condescending and has huge ego issues. A grown up bully. Should NOT be working in this profession. Don't walk, RUN AWAY from this man.

He’s rude, unprofessional, and laughs at your concerns. I’ve stuck with him for 6 months in hopes our professional relationship would improve but he’s actually the worst psychologist I’ve ever worked with. My best advice is to stay far away.

I saw Dr. Hocking for a little over 6 months several years ago and my life and career are still damaged. Please do not go to see him. He is somebody you chose the wrong profession.

If you go expecting to get help, you will be very disappointed. This man is not the one and really did not seem to even care.

Don’t waste your time with this doctor - so many better ones out there. He takes your money and treats you like a number, rather than a person.

Dr. Hocking is caring, experienced, and confident. He is direct and knowledgeable. Dr. Hocking is genuinely concerned about me and what is in my best interest. He is readily available by appointment, phone, or text. My psychotherapy experience has been excellent. A+++
