Dr. Brian Winston Masselink, MD

Worst doctor ever. Surely Kaiser is looking lining his pockets for him up not diagnose or "undiagnose" patients. Within less than 5 minutes he " undiagnosed" a long standing diagnosis for my son. He was condescending and a total jerk! He should be sued or and lose his license.

This is from developmental disabilities standpoint and our experience with Dr.Masselink. I found him to be pleasant and easy to talk with but he does lack empathy and can come off as dismissive. Dr. Masselinks first instinct, for us, was to push the meds route without any diagnosis. His specialty is pediatric epilepsy and he does not come out of that box to find other causes for said “behaviors” my child was having, nor gives any resources, referrals, or recommendations. Which is a shame. He especially has a difficult time understanding that the word “behavior” has a completely different meaning to a parent who has gone through behavior therapy training and has spent years researching and being around ASD behaviors...it is flat out disrespectful. I gave him a fair rating as I do not believe he has the wellness of his neuro-diverse patients as a priority. I reluctantly gave him another chance to help my child but as I had already knew from a previous appointment, he had nothing… more to give in terms of medical care. He is a quick fix doctor so if you are having a convulsive seizure and want medication ASAP, Dr. Masselink is the right Doc for you! I am grateful for the prompt appointments though. Waste of money but prompt. I do not recommend him for individual with developmental disabilities.

The “telephone” appointment with this neurologist only took place after I demanded an appointment since my daughter suffers from a non stop headache for several months and no diagnosis. Dr. Masselink was rude and condescending! In fact, he told me I have wasted too much time searching for the cause of my daughters medical problems, ( which includes joint/ muscle pain and a non stop headache) and he highly recommends a book “ parenting a child with chronic pain” He not only dismissed my daughter medical pain but basically summed it up to being manifested and advised pain management with a counselor and a doctor in Kaisers pediatric department who treats “ chronic pain syndrome” via mediation, diet, exercise, and physically therapy. All of which she had been doing through that doctor for months and still no answers as to the cause. Dr. Masselink initially asked for my daughters medical history and both my daughter and myself told him the events that had taken place up until… that point ( medically) so we told him about the profession of her symptoms only to be dismissed and told that he only hears a narrative of a “ sick “ child- well he did ask for what had taken place. He was implying that the narrative was in her head and this angered me as a mother! I proceeded to tell him that my daughter was not always a sick child. She was on the swim team for five years, played soccer and guitar until she could no longer do the things she loved because of physical pain. I hung up the phone and cried, my daughter walked away prior too the end of the conversation where I found her in her bedroom crying and telling me what’s the point? No one believes me. Shame on this doctor and shame on anyone in the medical field who chalked things up to “ its all in your head” philosophy. Stop placing people in a box because you do not have an answer or the desire as a doctor to look for one.
