Dr. Brian James Miller, MD

Dr. Brian Miller is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry on a research tenure track at the Georgia Health Sciences Univesity. He completed a BS in mathematics at Vanderbilt University, and earned a combined MD/MPH degree at The Ohio State University. He completed his general psychiatry residency and fellowship in psychotic disorders at MCG, where he served as chief resident in 2009-10. During his training, Dr. Miller was recognized with young investigator awards from the International Congress on Schizophrenia Research, Society of Biological Psychiatry, NIMH New Clinical Drug Evaluation Unit, and APA Research Colloquium for Junior Investigators. In 2010, he was a recipient of the Laughlin Fellowship from the American College of Psychiatrists, and was named the Medical College of Georgia Resident of the Year.

Dr. Miller is completing a doctoral thesis in psychiatric epidemiology through the University of Oulu (Finland), and is the recipient of several Finnish grants in support of his …research on paternal age as a risk factor for psychosis and mortality in the Northern Finland 1966 Birth Cohort. His current research project focus on inflammation/cytokines as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target for cognitive impairment and acute relapse of schizophrenia, and is supported by intramural grants from the MCG Brain and Behavior and Immunotherapy Discovery Institutes.

In addition to his research, Dr. Miller leads the general psychiatry journal club and clinical case conference. He also serves as a clinical supervisor for PGY-4 residents in the outpatient clinic.
