Dr. Brian Kevin Schmitt, PhD

My view has been that talk therapy my take a while to notice results. (Brian told me numerous times he feels everyone should regularly see a therapist -- I feel that's a big slant of self interest.) I did not feel I was making progress with Brian, but my breaking point with him was the following: (1) he regularly ridiculed my former therapist, who retired, who I said was very helpful (2) he dismissed books and authors I had found helpful, and ridiculed them as well (3) betrayed trust. Let me explain (3). After explaining central issues l had experienced and needed help with, months later when I brought the subject up again (after working on other problems) he claimed he had never heard me talk of that issue. My most vexing problems he didn't remember. How he later dealt with that particular problem of mine was to start needling me about it (on a day my wife was present) so that I eventually got quite angry with him to point of yelling after begging him to stop needling me. He then… acted like I was some crazy person that was a lot worse off than he had ever thought. This, after seeing him about two years. That's when I stopped seeing him. In the beginning he kept hassling me about insurance payments, which were made on time, to the point his own billing service told him to stop hassling me. I feel stupid for putting so much time into seeing him to try and make the therapy system work just to ultimately be nothing more than a payment to him with so little to nothing in return. I don't recommend this guy, obviously, and I think he's actually dangerous in the sense it seems he wanted to exercise control over me rather than help me.
