Dr. Brian Douglas Steinke, MD

I have finally finished my long and unfortunate journey with this Dr, so I can be very thorough. I had 2 lumbar surgeries in a year that not only didn't help but left me practically an invalid. I know suffer from such severe nerve damage that not any of the strongest painkillers can help, I attribute this to poor surgical technique. I've had a year to research, study, talk with others, etc. and I haven't found a single case that has the level of nerve damage that I have from the surgeries. He misdiagnosed my condition twice, seemingly ignoring the diagnostic imaging and other test results instead randomly removing discs he thought where causing problems. I now live in so mush pain that wearing clothes is a 9 out of 10 pain level. Also, I can only sit and lay down for short periods before I have to get up because the pain increases to a 10 out of 10, which as you can imagine makes sleep impossible. I can only stand and walk for a few minutes at a time. My entire lower body goes numb and… I can barely control my legs and all of this while on a heavy dose of Fentanyl. This will be my life now. It's one thing to not fix the problem and quite another to actually harm the patient. I agree with the other reviews that say he is a horrible human being. I personally think he is mentally unstable based on how he treats and reacts to people. I could give numerous more examples of his errors but this would go on forever. Lastly, you might ask why didn't I stop seeing him. Desperation and bad insurance. You often don't know how bad the situation is until afterward when you have time to look at it objectively. Finally, ask yourself if it is worth ending up like me, I say any other Dr would be a better choice.

This was my first and last visit with this or any other orthopedic doctor at North Western. Dr Steinke was the worst doctor I have ever seen in my entire life. He is rude, arrogant, flippant, argumentative, dismissive and overall the most uncompassionate human being I've ever encountered. I went just to have an abnormal MRI of my neck interpreted in terms i could understand. Instead what I got was getting talked at in a rude and antagonistic tone, the entire time. I went seeking help understanding an MRI that was already done and whether I had anything that I need to be concerned about or any actions I could take that would help. He even mentioned during the visit that there were other people that complained about what I assume was him because he couldn't help then that's why they are upset, let me tell you The reason why people are complaining about you doctor is your attitude and your treatment of your fellow human beings not of any help that you may or may not be able to offer… them. I so was speechless and off-putt at the way my wife and I were treated at this visit I couldn't wait to leave the office. I now regret that I didn't at least stop to speak to the office manager to let her know my thoughts. Rest assured I will be calling their office in the morning. If you enjoy being talked to like a child I an adult that has no idea how to talk to a child by all means go see this awful person.

Dr Steinke is neck down the BEST doctor Ever almost 2 years later my neck has never felt better. He identified the problem came up with a solution. He has an amazing bedside manner and his staff is very caring. Sharon his Surgery aka Cruise Director is also one of my favs.

Dr steinke is the most knowledgeable and respected ortho surgeon i can think of. His bedside manner and knowledge made my complicated surgery so less stressful. His team gave me a chance to be a dad by correcting my back problem. I am a disabled veteran who needed a doctor that respects and understands his patients other than surgery itself. I reccomend strongly to any veteran or person looking for a surgeon that can make a difference remember the name Dr. Brian Steinke

Dr. Steinke immediately calmed my fears when I met him for the first time in his office when I was in a relatively bad state. I had extreme pain in my neck with sudden onset of weakness/ paralysis of my leg, trunk and arms. He was compassionate, personable and confident . sure enough because of his high level of skill he successfully performed an emergency ACDF (3 level fusion) and I was able to walk again-pain free after the surgery! He is amazing and I am so grateful and thankful everyday for him.

Dr. Steinke is very knowledgeable about the lower back. I have had pain in my lower back for the past few years. It got much worse this past year and another Medical facility doctor proposed getting Steroid Injections about every 3-4 months for the rest of my life. At 65 years old, I didn't think this was the proper answer. Dr. Steinke had me take a MRI and XRay and proposed surgery. He explained my back problems in great detail and all of the different potential solutions. His nurse and the staff at NW are very kind and accommodating. I will be having surgery in the near future.

He just performed my 3-level lumbar fusion and from first exam to follow-up he has been fabulous: knowledgeable, informative, considerate, personable and skilled. Most telling - his surgical work is done but he's still guiding my recovery. The guy is the best!

Wonderful personality! Fast and efficient! His nurse is super friendly and the staff was nice also.
