Dr. Bruce Summerville, MD

Horrible “bedside” manners. I repeated myself multiple times over multiple visits - at least read my file notes before you see me! I feel I was asked to go to additional unnecessary appointments before surgery, which of course came with a cost. He also was never even close to on time for appointments. Before surgery, no discussion or kind words, after surgery, no follow up call. I was scheduled automatically for the follow up appointment post-surgery, and it wasn’t with the doctor! So he wasn’t ever going to tell me how my surgery went or the work he actually did. There are plenty of other doctors that you can see - I recommend you find one that actually cares about their patients. I also had an incision that was missing a stitch, kind of silly for a doctor that has done this for so long. I love IBJI and was so disappointed with this doctor. By the way, I wrote this review while I’m waiting another 1+ hour later than my appointment time to see him.

I’m Not sure how Dr. Summerville has gotten 1-star reviews. I received wonderful care not only from Dr. Summerville but also his staff. I highly recommend him.

good doctor but definitely needs some bedside classes in patient treatment

Worst ever. Sends in his PA and hides in the back room. No X-ray done because the patient couldn’t stand. No help from the staff. Fractured leg and no X-ray. Now broken with a rod. Horrible!

Great used car salesmen, terrible surgeon! The entire practice is untrained, lazy, snooty and impossible to work with. The 2 elder Hamming brothers would be aghast at what their practice has become. You're putting your health and perhaps your life in their hands and you may be very sorry. Be careful!

While e can be pleasant, his ability to interact with patients is terrible. He makes assumptions and judgements and doesn’t listen to what you actually say. He is only interested in seeing as many patients as he can as quickly as he can. I am sorry I trusted my health to him.

After waiting almost an hour for him to see me , he spent about 10 minutes with me where he failed to diagnose the problem. He did not think there was anything wrong with me and sent me on my way. Months later , still in pain I went to another doctor who accurately diagnosed my torn cartilage that needs surgery.

I saw Dr. Summerville after dealing with shoulder pain for close to a year (I had to wait for my HMO insurance to finally cover the visit). Dr. Summerville's diagnosis was vague... he had suspicions of what was wrong, but wanted to do "exploratory surgery" to confirm. I wasn't so thrilled with that answer and ended up seeing a different specialist who eventually did perform surgery.Flash forward six months and a receive a $300+ bill from Dr. Summerville's office for the consultation visit. I called his office, explained that I was on HMO when I saw him and that the visit had been pre-approved and covered. They insisted I call my insurance provider, which I did. It turned out Dr. Summerville's staff failed to submit the insurance claim within the amount of time required (they submitted the paperwork three months after my visit), and my insurance provider said they'd deal with the matter. A month later I received another bill for the same amount from Dr. Summerville's office. I'm… still dealing with this issue at present. These people are at best very incompetent and at worst scam artists. Simply put, there are better doctors (and staff) out there.
