Dr. Givhan is a Board Certified Neurosurgeon having practiced general adult neurosurgery in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, since 1995. Dr. Givhan attended Samford University in Birmingham and the University Of Alabama School Of Medicine. He served a general surgery internship and his Neurosurgical residency at the University of Alabama in Birmingham from 1989 to 1995. Dr. Givhan specializes in a broad range of complex cranial surgical procedures as well as spinal procedures utilizing minimally invasive techniques.

He left me paralyzed from the waist down after a routine spinal surgery. After months of therapy, I'm still struggling to get back on my feet and am now in more pain than I've ever been. I also have permanent bowel and bladder damage. DO NOT USE THIS "DOCTOR"!

Dr. Givhan is a very good doctor, he perform surgery on me and I feel a lot better.

Dr. Givhan performed surgery on my neck (fusion of two levels) and later removed a cyst from my spine. his bedside manner is pleasing, he is pleasant and reassuring. i would use him again, and trust him COMPLETELY in giving me the correct diagnosis.

After being involved in a terrible car accident I sustained several traumatic injuries including several broken ribs, a cracked sternum, and fractures in my back. I was truly blessed to have had Dr. Givhan care for me. During such a dramatic and scary time for both my family and me, He not only provided excellent medical care, but acted in such a manner that allowed both my family and me to feel more comfortable. Because of the severity of the accident and of the injuries, I became fearful about my ability to make a good recovery. This fear was quickly dissolved after Dr. Givhan humbly sat with me for an extended period of time to explain and ensure my knowledge of the recovery process for such a debilitating back injury. Since my accident two months ago in November, I am now able to walk again with only occasional pain. I continue to grow stronger and more mobile each day. Because of his excellent work I am able to make nearly perfect recovery!

After my mother was diagnosed with a degenerative disorder we were referred to Dr. Givhan for a lumbar surgery.First of all his attitude was terrible and he acted like we were waisting his time. Because my mom was in such pain we decided to go ahead with her surgery. After her operation we noticed she had severe unexpalined swelling in her left foot. After 3 weeks ths still had not gone away. When in clinic for a checkup Dr. Givhan seemed completely uncaring and did not even attempt to examine her until I raised my voice. Then he looked at her for all of 10 seconds and said he didnt know what was causing it and didn't know what to do about it! He is the most uncaring, calus doctor I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. I will not let him anywhere near my family or me again.

Dr. Givhan did my neck surgery in 2002 and was wonderful. He answered my questions completely and set my mind at ease. He's not "knife happy", explained my choices fully, and then let me decide how to proceed. Surgery went well.
