Dr. Bryant Luis Delgado

My mother is 81 and was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis last year while under Dr. Bryant Delgado’s care. Dr. Delgado was kind and pleasant, and he may be very capable of treating more common pulmonary conditions. However, based on our experience, I would strongly encourage anyone with pulmonary fibrosis or another uncommon or complex lung disease to seek out a pulmonologist who specifically specializes in their condition. It was only after my mother was evaluated at the National Jewish Health Interstitial Lung Disease Clinic that I understood how much more comprehensive her care could have been. Her new pulmonologist asked substantially more detailed questions, reviewed her CT scans with us, is working to characterize the type and cause of her disease, and ordered extensive additional testing. When he learned that she requires substantially more oxygen while walking than while sitting, that immediately raised concerns about possible pulmonary hypertension—potentially treatable issues… that could significantly improve her mobility and quality of life. In contrast, after my mother’s serious diagnosis, there was very little follow-up from Dr. Delgado. She was essentially sent home with supplemental oxygen, without the sense that anyone was actively investigating the type or cause of her disease or looking for additional ways to help her. Obtaining responses or meaningful follow-up was also extremely difficult. What troubles me most is that patients should not have to discover on their own that their condition requires expertise their physician does not have. No doctor can specialize in every disease, so when a condition falls outside their expertise, the patient should be told and referred appropriately. Unfortunately that does not tend to happen. I wish we had sought out a pulmonary fibrosis specialist sooner. I am grateful that Dr. Delgado was always kind to my mother, but based on what we have learned since, I would not recommend relying on his care alone for pulmonary fibrosis or another unusual interstitial lung disease.

He is a very compassionate doctor and took the time with me. I didn't feel rushed.

Dr. Delgado was the physician primarily responsible for my husband's care in the ICU. He gave me straight answers to all my questions, treated me with respect and was never patronizing. There were some doctors that I dreaded seeing, but Dr. Delgado would always listen to what I had to say and give me all the information I asked for. He was always very honest in what was a very bad time, which I appreciated greatly and still do.

Great Dr. aggressiveness and will take care of you with professionalism and care. Very nice dr, Very smart!!!!He puts you at ease and treat you with the best alternatives available...

Dr. Delgado took care of my father during his stay in the ICU at Ochsner. He's bed-side manners and professionalism helped put the family at ease during such a difficult time. The fact that he would explain to us everything that was going on with my dad made us feel well cared for and understood. Thank you, Dr. Delgado, for your help and for taking such great care of my father. I hope he'll be with us for many years to come.
