Dr. Burak Mehmet Ozgur, MD

Dr. Ozgur performed minimally invasive surgery on L4/L5 after I suffered from years of pain other surgeons either didn't want to touch or simply didn't want to spend the time explaining what they were going to do. Dr. Ozgur spent a considerable amount of time explaining to me exactly what his surgical plans would be and even showed me physical models of his intended approach. I walked out of the hospital without the use of my cane, walked a mile 10 post surgery, 6 miles at six weeks post and was hiking the cloud forest of Ecuador 3 months later! I am now three years out and feeling absolutely wonderful! Dr. Ozgur changed my life and I am thankful for his surgical skills every day!

Navigating the vast network of doctors out there can be overwhelming, so I've been very grateful to have several doctor friends and family members who have made personal recommendations to me. Dr. Ozgur's name kept coming up in conversations I had with other doctors. I had been referred to some other surgeons as well but wanted to reach out to Dr. Ozgur's office before making my final decision. As soon as I met Dr. Ozgur and his team (Janneinne and Yulia), I felt confident in moving forward with One Brain & Spine for my procedure. Dr. Ozgur patiently listened to all my concerns and made a recommendation that gave me much hope and confidence. For someone as accomplished as he is, it's amazing how kind and patient he is. I always felt like I was able to ask every question and concern I had, and Dr. Ozgur and his team always provided such thorough explanations. Anytime other questions popped up, it was also very easy to get in touch with his PA Janneinne. Scheduling was so unexpectedly… smooth, too--Yulia made it so easy to schedule my procedure! Most importantly, I'm 2 weeks post-op now, and I have NO MORE PAIN! Recovery has been very smooth, and my experience at Hoag Newport felt luxurious compared to other hospital experiences I've had. While I hope I won't need surgery again, I know with certainty that I'll be going back to Dr. Ozgur for any issues that may arise in the future--he's a truly gifted physician, and he has the best team working with him!

For over 8 years i suffered chronic sciatic pain. Debilitating nerve pain into my foot, calf and thigh. I had been dismissed and shut down by so many doctors and practitioners- that I’ve lost count. I was referred to Dr Ozgur for his renowned minimally invasive work. Let me tell you he is the best. And not because I’ve had multiple surgeries to compare to, but because he treated me as a person and listened to me. His PA Jeannine was hands down the best bed side manner I’ve encountered and made me feel so secure in my next steps. Woke up one morning and had terrible nerve pain down my arm, followed by numbness and tingling. After several weeks of using NSAIDS for pain and trying PT, my primary care physician ordered MRI. Review of the MRI clearly indicated cervical spine issues and that PT would not solve problem. In my case I had three cervical discs with issues; two discs causing severe nerve compression and one herniated disc causing the pain. I did extensive homework to find a neurosurgeon in Orange County. Dr. Ozgur was repeatedly suggested at various websites as among the best overall based on several factors. These included technical expertise (thousands of spine surgeries with extremely low downstream complications resulting from surgery), surgery location (wanted it done in a world class hospital -Hoag) and overall support provided by the surgeon and his staff. I have little to no history of surgeries and so had anxiety about the type of surgery and potential outcome. Dr. Ozgur totally understood… that the actual surgery is only part of the needs of the patient. He understood how important it is to discuss options, listen to concerns and put a plan in place together with the patient. Further, the support staff is a fully integrated team for the patient. I had numerous questions leading to surgery, and each time I would call, there was someone (Vernenice, Janneinne or Julia) who immediately had a response to any issue. A few questions needed to be referred to Dr. Ozgur directly. I received a call back within 24 hours with a response which is unheard of these days. The surgery was completed in about two to three hours, spent overnight at Hoag (staff there is really good) and then home. It is important to know that Dr. Ozgur and team follow up closely after surgery. The staff has called me many times after surgery to be sure all is going according to plan and if I had concerns. It has been some time now and I have no pain and have my life back thanks to Dr. Ozgur and team.

After an extensive search for a Neurosurgeon for my procedure, there was no doubt that Dr. Ozgur (and his staff) were more than qualified. From my initial appointment, to the ultimate surgery, Dr. Ozgur and his qualified team were well prepared; organized; and so responsive to all of my questions and needs. His thoroughness was admirable and I greatly appreciated the time he spent explaining my ultimate surgery, and all pre and post processes that I should expect. There is no doubt that we made the right decision in selecting Dr. Ozgur for my surgery.

Dr. Ozgur is an Excellent surgeon! He really does care for his patients and definitely one of the best spine surgeon. I am very happy with the outcome of my disc replacement on C5-C6. I am currently on therapy getting the strength back on my left arm. When he smiled at me at the pre-op I knew that he will take care of me. So much gratitude to him,his wonderful staff and his amazing P.A Taehee.

Thank you, Dr Ozgur, Jordan and Yulia a million times! I would recommend this team to anyone having any kind of back pain. I had severe spinal stenosis at L3/L4 and L4/L5. I was constantly in pain, always looking for somewhere to sit down or lean on. Over the last 5 years my back pain has progressed rapidly and over the last 6 months it got to the point where I couldn't even walk 30'. I was on so much pain medication, nerve pain medication and muscle relaxers. I waited until the pain got unbearable, finally I made the decision to see Dr Ozgur and to consider going through with back surgery. I I'm a 51-year-old that is very active. I had done the pain management thing for years. I went to my 1st visit and saw his PA Jordan, who is amazing and she sent me to have a current MRI. Well my MRI came back worse than it was a year ago. After I had the MRI, I had my follow up appt to see Dr Ozgur. I walked in with my long list of questions. Before I could ask Dr Ozgur answered all of my… questions, it was like he was in my head, answering my question before I could even ask it. By the time he was done talking to me I had no questions left on my list to ask him. It brought me to tears when he told me he could help me. Doctor and his staff are dedicated, kind, compassionate, diligent. The way they take care of you too is so hard to find these days. I knew I was in the right place and I knew he was going to be my surgeon when I left that appointment. He Is so confident, without being cocky and his voice, the way he talks is so reassuring, calming. Doctor has this demeanor that is amazing. The way he talks makes you feel so comfortable. 2 weeks later I had surgery and I have never had surgery in my life and had never been in the hospital except for the birth of my son. Within a few hours after surgery I was up walking around the halls of the hospital had a couple meals and went home that evening. The next 2 days after the surgery were tough but I made it through because of his staff, they walked me through it, held my hand and were always just a phone call away. Jordon talked to me whenever I needed something or even just to listen and reassure me. I was at a loss for words. Their empathy, caring and compassion showed in everything they did for me. Anytime I asked for something it was done. It's been 6 weeks since my surgery, my back and leg pains are completely gone and I’m off all the medication I was taking. I have a life again, I can walk on the beach again, I can just walk AGAIN!!!!! Thank you so much for giving me my life back. After my surgery when I was walking around through the hall at the hospital, one of the nurses ask me who my surgeon was? I told her Dr Ozgur, and she replied, “oh yeah I already knew that all of his patients recover faster and go home earlier than any other doctor.” So please don't wait as long as I did, don't wait until the pain is unbearable, make an appointment and go talk to him and you'll see what I'm talking about. Could not have had a better experience at a doctor's office. ( I do know, I'm a surgeon.) His coordinator, Yulia, and PA, Jordan, could not have been more friendly and helpful. The office is very efficient. Dr. Ozgur and I both felt surgery was necessary. It was carried out expeditiously, and now, nearing three months, has to considered a complete success. I could not be happier, and hopefully you will, as well.
