Dr. Burke J Brooks, MD

Dr. Brooks is unsympathetic, insincere, and doesn’t check in with his cancer patients. My dad is dying of prostate cancer. It’s progressively getting worse and he doesn’t check in with my father, ever, unless my mom pushes. They have dropped the ball with my father’s care. I don’t know if it’s because his prognosis is terminal, but it’s ridiculous to me. They claim COVID is making them busy, which is understandable. This is oncology though. People with cancer. Make it make sense. My mom had to PUSH for him to get an X-ray and they found more cancer in his bones. If it weren’t for my mom the doctor would’ve never done anything! The doctor claims that we don’t have the right to know my father’s life expectancy without him present, but my father will give up if he knows he has less than a year to live. My family has no way to prepare emotionally or mentally. If you want a doctor to check in, care about your well-being, and be on top of your health - you should find another doctor.

When I was first referred to Dr. Brooks, I was at a loss for explanations of what was going on with me. Dr. Brooks went above and beyond running different tests, thinking out of the box, and being so persistent in finding the cause. His demeanor and ability to speak on his patients level is extremely comforting. He encourages me to be as knowledgeable as possible about my diagnosis, and research available. I wish Everyone had a Dr. Brooks helping them navigate their journey.

My mother was diagnosed with Myelodysplasia in 2005 and Dr. Jay Brooks was her doctor. He may be experienced and informative but is really lacking in compassion. After several trips to his office for what I thought would be checkups and tests to update my mothers disease and maybe give us some clue to her improvement or decline, all he ever did was talk to her. Had I known this I wouldn't, have even bothered to bring her in her wheelchair to see him. At the last visit, I asked if he could test her to see if there was any change. He said no. He then proceeded to tell me to my face..."people know when they are dying". How dare he take away our hope like that! Shame on you Dr. Brooks!
