Dr. Byron Keith Watson, MD

I have used the Children's Clinic for several years and my family has been more than pleased. We love the staff and Dr. Watson. I will admit that getting an appointment with Dr. Watson is harder than it used to be but the clinic is so much busier than when we first started going and I think that is a compliment to Dr. Watson's quality of care. Getting an appointment is still very simple as there are now 3 other practitioners with Dr. Watson seeing patients (there was a time a few years ago where Dr. Watson was literally the only doctor in the clinic). Dr Watson is an excellent doctor, kids love him, and we always leave feeling that our problems have been explained to us. I, however, have to disagree with the comment below. I obviously cannot know and do not know if Dr. Watson misdiagnosed your child or not, but there is one thing I do know about him. He is not a "pill-pushing" doctor. I have heard him say many time that my child's illness "had to run its course" and medication was… not needed or " I cannot prescribe any medication for this as the illness will get better and medications for your child at this age (when my children were infants) could cause dangerous side effects". He also has told me at every visit that "if this does not work" and "your child does not get better in a few days then CALL ME SO THAT WE CAN RE-CHECK YOUR CHILD". No doctor is perfect and I think Dr. Watson would be the first to admit that he is not perfect, but I do not believe under any circumstance that he would prescribe ANY MEDICATION that would SERIOUSLY HARM a child as you stated in your review. Even your first review of him stated that the second doctor you consulted simply said that the medication "was not going to work for your child" and then suddenly your next response changed to "he gave me a medication that could have seriously harmed my child". I know that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but our opinion of Dr. Watson is that he is a caring physician, a very knowledgeable physician, and who loves his patients and does everything that he can to make certain they are taken care of. We will continue to recommend him and his clinic to anyone looking for a good pediatrician

In response to the last review, my ego is NOT the problem. Yes, I would and have used the nurse practitioner and the other doctor in the clinic. My issue was Dr. Watson MIS-DIAGNOSING my child and giving my child medicine that could have seriously harmed my child. Getting MY child well WAS the MOST important thing to me AND for your information, I WOULD have seen someone else in the clinic for follow-up BUT the other doctor was off that day and the nurse practitioner was out sick so before you go and accuse someone of their "ego" being the root of the problem, you should have "THOUGHT" before you opened your mind an typed your thoughts!!!!!!!!! I would have gladly seen someone else that day IF someone else HAD BEEN WORKING BUT THEY WEREN'T SO I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO GO SEE ANOTHER DOCTOR!!! But yes, I know Dr. Watson is ONLY 1 man and he can only see so many patients in a day and for that, I have agreed numerous times to see the other doctor or nurse practitioner because I was… putting my child FIRST and that was the only way to be seen by a doctor but when you agree to see another doctor in the clinic and you go in and no other patients are in the clinic and you walk back to a room and the doctor you would have liked to have seen but was told was full is sitting in a room with the nurses laughing, cutting up and telling jokes and there are no other patients in the clinic, well....yeah, you have to wonder where priorities lie with the doctor. I don't have to defend myself to anyone because everyone has their own opinion. You say you like him and he is the best. That's all well and good. I'm glad you do. I have a right to voice my concern as well and when it comes to the well being of MY child, I will do what I feel is best when it comes to their medical well being as I am sure you would do concerning your child.

After reading the the review below about Dr. Watson, I would like to also give my own opinion. I have known Dr. Watson and his family for many years and I take my children to see him as well. We do not always get in to see him but we are offered an appointment in the clinic with other professionals there. There are two other people within the clinic who are there to see patients. I understand preferring to see Dr. Watson but he is one man and cannot see everyone. Getting an appointment and getting the child seen who is sick the MOST important thing. I agree that the clinic is busy and he is difficult to get an appointment with, but if you choose not to use the clinic because he is full and not use the other options that is your choice. It is not a reflection on him or the clinic. He is the most caring doctor I have ever seen. If you can't get in to see him it's because his schedule is full with 40-50 other children . Believe it or not the world the world does not revolve solely… around you, so maybe its your ego that needs to be checked. He volunteers his time on his day off to give physicals to the local high school football team, among other athletic sports. Do you say things like that about other places you go and can't get into right away, for instance the eye doctor or the dentist? NO! You take the appointment that is available to you. It has nothing to do with that persons ego or anything else. I love Dr. Watson and that clinic. I will gladly see who I can get an appointment with because I want my kids well and healthy regardless of who sees them.

I have used this clinic for a few years now and when I first started using the clinic and Dr. Watson, I was pleased. I didn't have any issues and Dr. Watson was kind and seemed very concern with my child's issues and medical condition. We would always be able to make an appointment and was always able to see Dr. Watson. But the last couple of years, something has changed with Dr. Watson. He doesn't seem as concerned with his patients and his attitude has changed. He has become arrogant, more concerned with his "status" as being a doctor and what he can do on "TV" as the "Doctor of the Day" and "IF" you are able to get in to see him, he does not spend time with the kids like he used to. The last time I saw him which was a few months ago, he was in the room maybe 5 minutes and I never saw him again that visit. He told me he would be back in but he never stepped back in the room. He sent his nurse in and she said a prescription had been called in and if we weren't any better in a… few days, to make an appointment and come back to see him. That time came and we weren't any better and I called to make a follow up appointment and I was told he was too busy and couldn't fit us in to his schedule. I explained what I was told and I was put on hold and when the receptionist came back, she said there was no way they could make an appointment for us. She told me I could see the Nurse Practitioner but the Nurse Practitioner is NOT my child's doctor and I didn't know what else to do but to take him to see another doctor, who at that time, plainly told me my child had been misdiagnosed and the meds we were given was not going to do any good for what was wrong with my child. I don't know if he has become too busy and doesn't have the time or if he just doesn't care about his patients and his job anymore. I felt the Children's Clinic was turning in the right direction when Dr. Watson came to town because I felt he genuinely cared about his patients but something has definitely changed because this is no longer the case. When you try and make an appointment and are told the doctor is too busy and you will have to see someone else or make an appointment for a later date, hmmmmm...Now, my question is, how in the world am I supposed to know when my child will be sick? I guess if I want to see Dr. Watson and let him be my child's doctor, I will have to make an appointment and if my child is not sick then I will have to cancel and reschedule and maybe just maybe one of these times, my child will be sick. No I don't think so!!!!! If, as a parent, my child is not able to see their doctor when they are "sick" and I am told time and time again, I will have to see someone else, I do believe it is time to find a new doctor. I am not the only parent who has had this issue. There are numerous people whom I have come in contact with that have had the same issue and have pulled their children from the clinic because they can never see him. The lack of concern for his patients is just not there anymore. The children's clinic is slowly going back to the way it used to be years ago. For my child's health and well being, we will be finding a new doctor. I cannot in good faith put my child and his health in a doctor who doesn't have the time to spend with his patients. If you, as a doctor, have become too busy for your patients and you are not able to make time for them when they are sick, then maybe you should find a smaller practice with less patients or something because parents are not going to keep trying to see a doctor who never has time for them and will not spend time with them even when and if they are lucky enough and able to get an appointment. Your staff is excellent. The ladies at the front are always polite and the nurses are all wonderful but the doctor is generally what makes the clinic work and if the doctor is not able to see the patients and treat the children and spend more than 5 minutes with them, there will be no clinic.

Trying to get an appointment is awful, unless you're having a well check performed. Would much rather my child have a shot instead of oral meds that usually DON'T WORK, usually 95% of the time child ends up with shots to rid the problem and asked for shots upfront. Saw the NP in office and was totally unhappy with mis-diagnosis of my child and lack of concern for my child by the NP. I understand that you have the right to delete or block this from view but SERIOUSLY let's take the good with the bad here. Yes let others see what people think without being afraid of the truth, we all know life isn't always fair in reviews.

Our family thinks Dr. Watson and his staff are awesome. We have three boys ages thirteen, six, and three. The receptionists are always very nice and helpful. If you call with a concern, they always get the message to the nurse of doctor ASAP. The nurses are always very nice with lots of smiles. They talk with the kids and put them at ease. And, they have seperate waiting area for kids who are not sick. He is unbelievable with our sons; all three of them think he's great. He is always willing to answer our questions. He always smiles. He takes time with the children, and he doesn't treat them like they aren't there. He'll hold a baby the whole visit; he jokes with the kids and asks them about the toy they brought with them; he asks them about what they like to do. He doesn't treat the parents like we don't know anything. He doesn't just give us an answer to our concerns without explaining things. He researches the sometimes odd ones that come up. For example, he contacted a… nutritionist to compare goat's milk with formula before he advised us which he thought was best for our 7 month old when I had to wean early because he knew we would want to see some proof. Another example is how easily he agreed with the strict, somewhat different (yet educated) ways we want our newborns cared for which includes no shots, no nursery w/o one of us present, etc. We will never forget his response to all we asked that other doctors wouldn't agree with. "No problem. What else?" says Dr. Watson. We were so shocked we couldn't say anything for a moment. One of the many reasons we think he is awesome is because he knows that not every protocol hospitals normally follow are always neccessary, no matter the possible benefits; he is smart enough to tell the difference and realize that parents can be smart enough to make educated decisions concerning their child's health. To us, that is invaluable. Besides, how many other male pediatricians do you know who grabs up the baby when he walks through the door, takes a deep breath close to the baby's head, and says, "I just love the way babies smell"?

Dr. Watson is a wonderful pediatrician, who is very genuine and compassionate in his work. I am greatly appreciative of the care that he has provided and continues to provide for my child and all the children in our family.

Dr. Watson is an amazing pediatrician and person in general. I have had the joy of knowing him for almost 6 years now. He was the attending ped when my daughter was born. She was in fetal distress and I was in distress as well and he spent his lunch break talking with me and my family while we waited on the O.R. for my C-section. He stood by my side during delivery assuring me that my daughter was going to be wonderful and that she was going to be well cared for! He kept his promises. Through acid reflux, mild milk allergies, major environmental allergies, asthma, and many other distressing childhood illnesses, Dr. Watson has alwasy met our needs and then some! Even when my daughter had to have her tonsils and adenoids removed he agreed to talk with my 5yr old daughter about the process....at his home....on his day off!!! what other dr's do you know that would go out of their way to see a child for free on their day off? NONE! He loves his patients like his own children. I have seen… him with his children and know how much he loves them so that is an amazing thing that he would love his patients with even and ounce of the love he has for his own children!!! I wish more dr's would have the care for their patient's well being as he does! It is too rare! Med school does not teach dr's to have the amazing bedside manner that Dr. Watson has! He is wonderful and I am blessed to know him and to have my daughter in his care! I only pray that I am able to know him for many years to come. I have watched him grow as a pediatrician over the past 6 years and only improve his trade! Thank you Dr. Watson for everything you have done for my family!! No dr. has ever touched our lives more!

I have used Dr. Watson for my children ever since he came to West Point. He is a very loving and caring physician. He cares about his patients. He talks to them and asks them questions then he talks to the parents. My children absolutely LOVE him. They feel comfortable around him and are not scared when they know they have to go see him. I have never had a bad moment with him or his clinic. They have always gone above and beyond when one of my children needed to see him. West Point needs more doctors who truly care about their patients like Dr. Watson does.

I have been seeing this doctor for years. My children love him. He actually talks to them and interacts with them. The staff and the nurses are wonderful. This clinic has come a long way in the last 7 years. This town is very lucky to have a doctor and staff like this at the Children's Clinic.
