Dr. Carey Michele York-Best, MD

Originally consulted her about a large fibroid over 15 years ago. She determined no intervention. a close loelong freind, on the faculty of harvard Med, disagreed with her non-intterventional plan. He turned out to be so right. In 2019, she performed a double biopsy t rule out cervical cancer and vaginal cancer. She was sloppy, and when the lab Tech informed her, bu her own admission, she had not collected enough tissue for a precise diagnosis, she said, and I quote verbatim "Let's just call it Negative". Um.......No. Yes, I am still alive, but that is not a medically responsible conclusion,. Yet, because i had no other gyno, I contacted her when I had bleeding of unspecified origin. She was not wanting to run ANY tests.I urged her to at least rule out the most basic, a UTI. She refused. Turns out, 6 months later, I tested as having a very serious UTI, from which i have now suffered for over a year. She behaved in an oblivious manner. Over 15 years of trusting her, then I found two… alarmingly horrid reviews by other women buried within these and realized other women knew & got away from her.Her arrogance is exceeded only by her obliviousness and surgical sloppiness. I turned the UTI management over to my PCP. It evolved into a persistent chronic UTI, the one in my lifetime, compliments of her apathy.Still suffering while she felt no responsibility for testing.

I just love Dr. York-Best. She has been my doc for more than 25 years. She was wonderful when I had my children and ever since. Her nurse, is fantastic and I never wait to be seen. They are a terrific team in a world-class practice. You cannot do better.

Needed surgery…she provided confidence in ability to do that surgery. On day of surgery she had a SECONF YEAR resident listed on the consent form. I asked who would be performing the surgery and she said she’d be in there with him, then she said they’d both be doing it…THEN said she’d be doing it. Paperwork say the second year resident did it; she was in the room, scrubbed and ready. A 2nd year resident doesn’t know their ear from their elbow in then OR - I’ve seen them in action. I paid for her expertise and got a student. Beware of the bait and switch. I work in at MGH and see these residents in action, and a second year is VERY inexperienced. I can’t believe I went to someone so highly qualified and got a student to do my procedure. So disappointed, especially since she SAID she’d do it after seeing my apprehension in questioning who would do the procedure!

Obnoxiously domineering, controlling, makes disparaging remarks about menopause & effects on sexuality. If you are under 45, go ahead. If you are over 50 , find a woman who has compassion & will be upbeat. The impression was one of distinct superiority. She can't seem to muster any uplifting approach toward menopausal sexuality. Just hurl yourself off a cliff , I guess. Not her problem. Clearly. {My partner was present, too.}

Dr. York-Best is a wonderful physician who cared for me prior to, during, and following my pregnancy. I had a serious leg injury during my pregnancy and was operated on at MGH and Dr. York made herself available throughout the surgery and recovery. Her availability, encouragement, and expertise supported me and the young life I was caring for. Though this was she 18 years ago, I am certain she would have only gotten better! Simply love her! If I lived a little closer, I would have no other OB/GYN!!

I was so happy to find Dr. York-Best. I had to have a uterine fibroid removal (large submucosal fibroid that was causing the heaviest periods, which led to anemia) and was told by the first GYN I went to that a hysterectomy was needed. Luckily, I found Dr. York-Best. She's amazing - wish all doctors were like her. Dr. York-Best ordered the proper diagnostics, and informed me of my options and risks - in a kind and compassionate way, and I was educated about my health. I did not want a hysterectomy, and she was sensitive to the fact that she was treating a person, not just doing a procedure. She treats her patients with respect - she takes the time to educate you, without talking down to you, or dismissing something. The surgery went well - no complications - and very fast recovery. That's what you pray will happen. Felt very grateful I was in her care.

Although she is a pleasant doctor, this rating is based strictly on her expertise. This is a word of caution to anyone considering seeing Dr. York-Best for endometriosis care. She is NOT an excision specialist. She does not understand have a comprehensive understanding of endometriosis, and she does not offer support or holistic suggestions to treat endometriosis. She offers outdated and erroneous advice as "treatment". I.E. birth control. Hormonal birth control does NOT treat and does not cure endometriosis. My symptoms were worse after having surgery with her. She perforated the endometrioma during surgery while trying to remove it from me! Side note: I had a prior surgery with a different surgeon and that DID NOT happen. When I expressed my concerns with still having pain after surgery, my concerns were dismissed. I ended up with acute kidney failure because she erroneously assumed I had a UTI, and prescribed me an antibiotic to take, when I was indeed still experiencing severe… endo-bladder symptoms after surgery with her. Another note: although scars are typical after surgery, from my previous surgery, the scars healed beautifully and you would have never had known I ever had surgery - she even remarked that she could not find them! She did not seal the incisions she made on my body properly, and my incisions did not heal properly. I was left with nasty scars because of it.

Dr. York best is absolutely the BEST doctor I have ever met in my life. Five stars are not enough, Dr. York best is beyond stars. I was diagnosed with ovary dermoid cyst(~7-8cm) on Oct this year. When I first talked the Dr. York Best, she was very very nice, she was very confident in the surgery and she made me less concerned. I was very worried about the surgery and the cyst itself at the beginning. When the surgery day came, Dr. York-best did it very successfully. She was able to remove the big cyst without breaking it which is a normal thing when a doctor is doing the surgery. Best result ever, I recovered very soon. Today is the 9th days after the surgery, I feel pretty well. The pain was fully controlled after three days. I did the post visit with Dr. York best today, she took off my healing strip which applied on my incision after the surgery. OMG!!! unbelievable! the scar is really really small almost invisible! Dr. York best did a very good job on my skin too! I appreciate… Dr. york-best forever!

Dr. York Best is a rock star. She helped me deal with a very difficult situation. When I return to her it's no big deal to perform effective yet unusual procedures at the last minute. She has performed surgery on me. She is excellent, has a great bedside manner, and gives me positive feedback about taking care of my chronic condition.

She is very caring and works closely with the patients to determine given problems. I highly recommend her. Problems that can commonly be misdiagnosed by the PCP, Dr. York Best is able to identify and determine appropriate treatments.
