I saw Dr Gibson twice, once for a routine physical and once for what was supposed to be a follow-up. I had an equally bad experience both times. She repeatedly prescribed medications to my plan of care as a first-line treatment with zero discussion regarding what the medications do, potential side effects and most importantly if I wanted them (I am young, healthy and active and explained to her multiple times that I only like to take medication when absolutely necessary - in this case they were not). She was consistently condescending and failed to explain any of the procedures she was doing, and what the results would indicate. Patient education is an integral part of medical management, and this was severely lacking during both interactions. It was evident she was rushed and did not genuinely care about the patient right in front of her. Additionally, on the second visit, I was under the impression I was there for a follow-up visit after a routine physical. When I got into the… room I was informed I was getting a Pap. I figured it was part of the physical as i was told the appointment was a follow-up multiple times while scheduling and re-scheduling (the office cancelled my first scheduled appointment). Immediately after this appointment, I called to request the specimen not be sent to the lab, as I wanted to find another provider and insurance would not cover two Paps. I was told this would be taken care of. The next day I received a call saying by the time they got the message, it had already been sent. I was told they would follow up but if it already started the process there is nothing they could do. This was on them as they had ample time to prevent the specimen from going to the lab from the time I called. I was also told that the appointment would be billed as a ‘Well-Women’s Visit.” This is completely inappropriate as I was never aware that it was this type of visit, and they billed for it without my knowledge. When I stated this to the person I was speaking with, I was essentially told “too bad.” Now insurance will not cover this type of visit from a more respectable provider. If you want an honest transparent provider and would like to be a part the decisions with regards to your own health, I would highly recommend going somewhere else.
