My son was treated by Dr. Baum for more than 10 years. At first, the treatment he prescribed was really working and my child benefited from his care. However, the weekly visits for YEARS did not seem necessary but this was the only way to keep him in the Dr's care. It shouldn't be about the money but I believe it was to Dr. Baum. In the end Dr. Baum withheld information from me about plans to move my child away from his school by his father. Not only was it illegal to move a child out of a school without the consent of both parents who shared legal custody, but I was floored that Dr. Baum was involved in the "secrecy" about the plan. When confronted, Dr, Baum seemed hurt that I was so upset with him withholding vital information like this as he conspired with my ex-husband and made my son keep this information from me as well. What kind of therapist conspires like this? The damage to my son has still not been resolved.

We have been working with Dr. Baum for six years now. He has been transformational in my son's life as his doctor and therapist. He has worked closely with our entire family to develop a framework that has helped our son succeed both academically and socially.

This man destroyed my trust in therapists for years, in the middle of a nasty custody battle. I was ten years old. Dr. Baum is the reason I was so afraid to say anything to any evaluator in the future, which would have drastically changed how my life panned out. He directly told me that nothing I said to him would be shared with my parents unless he was worried about direct danger to them or me. He asked me, if I had three wishes, what would they be. I said that I never wanted to see my step-mother again, that I wanted my parents to get back together, and I wanted us to be happy. For some reason, he felt that this information was necessary to share with my step-mother. When she heard this, she was angry and not concerned. She told my father, and he too punished me for feeling a legitimate feeling, that could be natural for any child in a divorce. They guilt tripped me for days, and if I had the courage to tell the custody evaluator how I really felt, I could have actually gotten… help, instead of stamping down my feelings for years, and actively being terrified of telling anyone anything, for fear that they'd turn around and tell my parents.
