Dr. Carlin Denise Barnes, MD

Dr. Barnes forces you to see their Nurse Practitioner who can't write scripts without Dr. Barnes. they want a 10 day notice or you or out of luck. That is a serous predicament when dealing with stimulants. Especially going of them immediately instead of gradual. On the second event I decidsed to go to Dr. Barnes who said she had a 7 day notice as well. I explained my past retired doctor didn't need to. So Dr. Barnes proceeded to tell me she didnt have to take me as a patient. End of conversation, I hung up! I plan to report the unprofessional manner to the board.

I used to see the NP that works under her, Kelly Van Norton, for over 4 years. I have never had a more stressful experience with a psychiatrist. Office wait times are an hour or more. Every single time I have had an appointment I have had to wait for 2-3 patients before me (even if I got there on time) and would not see the NP until an hour after my scheduled time. Office staff is incredibly disorganized and rude. They have frequently messed up my prescriptions, one time prescribing me half the dose I was supposed to get. I spent hours at the pharmacy trying to rectify the situation. They do not call back for follow ups on questions or rescheduling appointments. I scheduled an appointment for a Saturday and when it was spontaneously cancelled two weeks before I called and asked to speak to the doctor to figure out my options. I never talked to her and instead had the office telling me there was nothing I could do--I would have to miss work to make an appointment that the NP had… cancelled. I came here for 4 years because I needed my regular medications and consultations, but I am willing to risk that, drive an extra 20 minutes and start with a new doctor than come here. Save yourself the headache and unnecessary stress.

I came to Dr. Barnes because of work related stress. I have never had a consultation with a psychiatrist and didn't know exactly what to expect. i found Dr. Barnes to be very attentive, compassionate and gently insightful to many of the experiences I shared. I would recommend her highly.
