Dr. Carlos Emilio Alvarez

I had a painful hemorrhoid for 2 days and decide to go to Dr. Alvarez. He spent no more than 5 minutes with me without any further exams, he asked me to come back the next day for a quick surgery (his word). After reading all the papers he gave me, i could tell the surgery is far from being small...... I decided to go to another doctor and he told me i definitely don't need a surgery for such a minor problem. He gave me some cream and 2 days later my problem was solved.

Dr. Alvarez is a very compasionate person. He explained my problem, thoroughly , colon cancer, and rested my mind from negative thoughts. Very kind and excellent doctor, which I highly recommend.

I suffered from Ulcerative Colitis and subsequently had to undergo an ileostomy and proctocolectomy. Dr. Alvarez was a consultant doctor to my surgeon in Minneapolis, where I live. Dr. Alvarez not only allowed me to have his Miami phone number, but he was most informative, direct and thorough when I called with questions. I find him to be one of those rare physicians who listen and hear what the patient has to say or what s/he has fears about. He answers questions not in "doctor speak", but takes the time to explain in ways that makes it easy for patients to truly uderstand. This mode of "bedside manner" allays fears and puts patients at ease. I heartily recommend Dr. Alvarez, especially if you are plagued by chronic illnesses like UC or Crohn's and also for the care and concern he shows to patients who have to undergo either ileostomies and colostomies.

I was sent by my internist for a colonoscopy because I was suffering from anemia. The doctor wrote the code for routine exam. The radiologist's bill was not paid because of this diagnosis. The internist sent a follow-up letter and made a phone call and yet the doctor refused to change the diagnosis. Even the insurance company was on my side on this one and called the office twice to have him revisit the diagnosis. The hospital bill was covered by insurance because they eventually changed the diagnostic code themselves. I have been paying $5.00 a month for 2 years. I still owe $415.00 -- money I can ill afford to spend due to a doctor's hubris and stubbornness. This is the same doctor, who when I went the very first time for an actual routine exam, wrote that I had blood in my stool so the insurance would pay for it.
