Dr. Carmelo Cuffari, MD

Dr, Cuffari is a terrible doctor. My son was diagnosed with Crohn's disease. He gave us a book and expect us to learn everything from it and didn't explain anything about the treatment options, other than he recommends Humira. My son was on immune suppressant med on eczema. At first, Dr. Cuffari thought Humira can take care of both. But JH pediatric allergy doctor said Humira isn't effective for Eczema. Then he sat on that information as he didn't know what to do and never called us back over a month. When I called him for follow up, he insists to see in person. At the apt, the first thing he said was "What shall we do?". He didn't have any plan for my son. Before seeing Dr. Cuffari, I talked to allergy doctor and Allergy doctor told me my son can be on both meds. It was clear to me that Dr. Cuffari had zero knowledge about the allergy meds and clearly didn't research anything about it. He does NOT remember what we discussed on the visit and does NOT follow up what he said… he would do. So, to obtain Humira prescription, I had to call him repeatedly asking for prescription status. After 1.5 month starting Humira, my son got very sick and his intestine was inflamed worse than before Humira. Dr. Cuffari then recommended surgery. He was dealing with 14 yrs old and barely treated my son with med. But when the condition worsen, Dr. Cuffari immediately recommends surgery!! I declined it and never went back. We started seeing holistic doctor and stopped western meds all together. My son is on herbal supplements with gluten and dairy free diet. My son never repeated with painful flare up and his digestive system is now working normally - 2 times normal bowel movement per day. His eczema hasn't come back. My son is much healthier, growing and gaining weight. I do NOT recommend Dr. Cuffari to anyone. Johns Hopkins trustworthiness plummeted to bottom with experience with him.

He cut me off constantly and claimed to be an expert on my children's conditions, which he knew very little about. I barely got a sentence out! He also was not clear in explaining what he thought the plan of treatment should be. My husband and I each asked him to repeat the next steps and they were different explanations. He did seem to take seriously some of what we were saying, and his explanation for that part of the protocol was backed by research.

Told me and my child "she wasn't sick enough" so he was unsure why we were there. Upon further testing she was found to have lesions in her colon. We are transferring her out of Dr Cuffari 's care and to a different hospital all together :( the first time EVER I have been disappointed with care from JH

Dr Cuffari definitely thinks outside of the box. My son has many issues and Dr Cuffari has been great and thinks of things no other doc has. He is always available and has given us his cell and pager numbers and email so we can reach him any time.

the visit with him was way too quick, and he made a few sarcastic comments, which I didn't feel were very kind.

met with this doctor for the first time. As a specialist goes. Easy to get an appointment quickly. no long wait in waiting room or once in office for appointment, Eager to solve this mystery of my son's rare problem.

After 1 year and three different hospitals. Dr. Cuffari was the ONE to finally diagnose my son with Crohns deisease. He has cared for Joe for the past 8 years, even returning calls at night and on the weekends. Even though Joe is an adult now Dr. Cuffari has helped to refer him to an adult GI and helped out just a few months ago when Joe had a blockage and was hospitalized. Thank you Dr. Cuffari!
