Dr. Carmen Fortuno-Roman

I am surprised this is a children’s doctor. You would think they would be more inviting and deligent. Instead they communicate with you like they could care less. Not somewhere I would take my child in hindsight.

My grandaughter has been a patient of Dr. Fortuno's since she was born and in NICU at Florida Hospital. My daughter and I have been very happy with Dr. Fortuno's care but her office staff and physician's assistant are incompetent and rude. Dr. Fortuno ordered a consult with Cranial Technologies and labs on one of our visits. Two weeks later Cranial Technologies still did not have the referral. My daughter and I walked into Dr. Fortuno's office and asked about the referral and we could tell the staff did not know about it. When they asked the PA she was defensive and rude. We asked for a phone number to set up the consult and within 15 minutes of calling ouselves we had an appointment with Cranial Technologies. The labs that were also ordered during that same doctor's visit did not get sent to the lab until after multiple phone calls from myself and the lab. They finally received them at 5:30 pm the day before a 7:30 am appointment. Then someone from Dr. Fortuno's office called my… daughter and said she had to bring the baby in on the first Monday of the month or wait another month for an appointment to follow up with the Cranial recommendation so we changed other appointments only to be called the day of the appointment and told we did not need to bring the baby in. The doctor did not know her staff had called us and she said she would re educate them. After complaining about all of this Dr. Fortuno was nice enough to call and talk to us personally. However the problems continue. The baby has a new prescription filled at the hospital before discharge last month. The prescription was ordered by Dr. Fortuno but they made us fill it at the hospital instead of sending it to my daughters pharmacy. It has a hospital doctor's s name on it and getting it refilled has been a nightmare. My daughter called on a Wednesday to request refill and was told the clinical staff would take care of it. On Friday it still had not been sent to pharmacy. I called and explained that we would run out of this important seizure medicine before the weekend was over. They said the PA would take care of it but I have no confidence in her and told them that. The PA got on the phone and screamed at me because I told the office girl that I did not trust her to follow through. She informed me that she had been off the past two days. After yelling and screaming at me she agreed to send prescription but it still wasn't there when they closed at 2 pm on Friday. I had to call the answering service twice before the on call doctor called back and gave me a lecture on calling prescriptions in earlier. Any family dealing with a child with multiple medical problems and numerous appointments will understand the stress and business of our lives. We need medical staff that eases the burden not contributes to it. Dr. Fortuno needs to realize that she needs to supervise her staff and hold them accountable for not following through with her orders. I worked in health care for 20 years and if I spoke to a family member ,even a difficult one, like her PA spoke to me I would have been fired.
