Dr. Carol Arline Ekelund, MD

If negative stars were an option i would have selected those. As a first time mother with a 3 day old i had an absolutely horrid experience with Dr.Ekelund and her nurse Penny Hunter. A number of things went absolutely wrong at our appointment and i should say we did recieve several calls and apologies from other Pediatricians and the head of Pediatrics. This is nothing against Kaiser, the other pediatricians we have seen since dr.ekelund have been absolutely amazing! However in the short, Dr.Ekelund and Penny Hunter forced formula down my daughters throat after i insisted breast feeding and then sent us back to the hospital so they were no longer liable. Instead of calmly explaining the situation and talking us through their worry of my daughters low glucose level (which was later found to be perfectly normal for a 3 day old) we were told we were not allowed to leave with our daughter and that she was going back to the hospital in an ambulance to receive a spinal draw and other tests… (none of which were done or needed to be done). I have no idea if she is great with older kids or not, but she clearly had no idea how to deal with new borns. So, my advice if for some reason you end up with Dr.Ekelund or nurse Penny Hunter, RUN!
