Dr. Carolyn Patricia Thumser, MD

I have had a few interactions with Dr. Thumser now that have been less than positive. To provide background, I am a Master's prepared RN with years of experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings (adult, family medicine, and cardiology settings). During sick call last year, she almost misdiagnosed my son's cellulitis from a bad vaccine until I pushed the issue (I've seen many patients with cellulitis in my work and his was down to his elbow from his deltoid muscle). Additionally, she never looked at his chart and referred to his other parent as my wife (We are a married male LGBTQ couple). I can accept a mistake but then she brushed it off and never apologized for it. Recently, she shamed me for coming to sick call because my son has been experiencing a cough x 4 weeks (which is not normal, and in my opinion, an acute illness since it hasn't been effectively resolved after multiple visits). I pulled him out of school for a normal visit for this prior to this but the directions… I received were not helping and he has been missing sleep/not in optimal health and I didn't want him to miss school again. Her bedside manner needs an adjustment, and if she wants people to come to visits during business hours they need to offer more evening hours on the upper level for working parents and kids with busy schedules. Lastly, through years of Pediatric nursing experience, as a nurse you learn to listen to parents concerns as they know their children best. She has a very inflated opinion of herself and doesn't seem to practice this. I will continue to come to this practice because I love the care my son gets from Dr. Lundgren but I will be very careful of coming if she is covering.

She is very well educated, and if you need a quick diagnosis, or just in for a cold, she's your gal, however, if it's a delicate situation or you have a lot of questions, find another. She is very matter of fact, not at all warm but again very knowledgable.
