Dr. Chad Barrett Kawa, MD

Dr Kawa conducted testing on my 93 year old father after he was admitted to the hospital with a severe GI bleed. Dr Kawa came in on his day off to perform the procedure, he was patient in listening to the issues, excellent communication skills in explaining future complications, and the follow up appointment was extremely helpful. He is somewhat quiet, however he has spent time in the Japanese culture. I look at that as being more cultural, rather than a lack of knowledge. I would give him the highest ranking possible. As a nurse, I was also glad to hear that all of the other nurses at the hospital said he was one of their favorites. (I always listen to the opinions of nurses that work with physicians). Highly recommend.

I haven't met a doctor who would sit down with patients and answer questions like he does. Best bedside manner I've ever had.

Dr Kawa diagnosed me with chronic pancreatitis 2 years ago. My pain has been very hard to control and it has been very frustrating. When I call and leave messages it can take days or longer for a call back and he didn't even address the issue I called for. I was in the ER for pain and passing out and the er Dr called him to get advice on treating me. Dr kawa told him I don't have chronic pancreatitis. The ER Dr treated me awful after that and pretty much said I was just looking for pain meds which I have at home. My condition has been hard to treat but it's like he didn't know how to help me so he changed his diagnosis. 2 years ago he said it was definitely chronic pancreatitis and my pancreas was scarred and an abnormal shape. I wouldn't see him again for anything

Horrible Doctor, do not see Him!!!

He screwed up a surgery, got mad when I was in pain. Wasn't reachable for the hospital I was admitted to. After talking to another doc that actually fixed my problem, I was told he never should have even tried the surgery when he saw how bad it was.

Seems like a nice guy and competent but tried differ #s for refill. Redirected, ended up with other clinic in Provo. Tried AF # twice, listened to mindless recordings for over 20 mins. Finally hung up.

I think 1 star is being generous! When I had complications after my surgery he didn't want to deal with it. I was in extreme pain and he didn't seem to think I should be having a problem. If you could see the size of the year in my esophagus you would understand my pain. I ended up having to go into the er for pain management where they discovered a huge problem and I was immediately admitted and spent several days in the hospital. The complications were not necessarily his fault, they are the risk of surgery, but I do believe he may have been too aggressive. It was really the way I was treated during the whole experience. My primary care physician had to take over when he wanted to release me prematurely. im looking for a new gi to take over what he started now.

Dr Kawa is an amazingly talented gastroenterologist. I credit him toward saving my life.

Dr. Kawa was rude, brisk, did not give me time to ask a question and tried to explain my severe diagnosis while I was still under sedation and then left immediately with no follow up. I could not reach which when I started having complications. I will not go back to him.
