Dr. Chad Allen Livasy, MD

Dr. Chad A. Livasy was born in Ft. Dodge, Iowa and received his B.S in Microbiology with distinction and honors and his MD from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA. Dr. Livasy completed residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, serving as chief resident, and fellowships in Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. In 2001 Dr. Livasy joined the Department of Pathology and Lab Medicine at UNC-Chapel Hill, becoming a tenured Associate Professor and serving as Director of Breast Pathology, Associate Director of Surgical Pathology and Associate Director of Cytopathology. While at UNC, Dr. Livasy was active in translational research and was a member of the Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) in breast cancer. Dr. Livasy’s research focused on the pathology of hormone receptor-negative breast cancer and gene expression profiling of breast cancers to predict tumor biologic behavior and response to therapy. He has published …over 50 original journal articles and text book chapters and over 35 original scientific abstracts, mostly in the fields of breast and gynecologic pathology. Dr. Livasy has given several invited national and international lectures on topics related to breast cancer pathology and serves on the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology Scientific Abstract Review Board for Breast Pathology. He is a member of the International Society of Breast Pathology, International Society of Gynecological Pathologists, Arthur Purdy Stout Society of Surgical Pathologists and United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology. Dr. Livasy’s areas of diagnostic expertise include breast and gynecologic pathology and cytopathology.
