Dr. Chang is a very good in what he does. I had a back surgery in January and did what he said and today I'm living without that pain. Thank you doctor for all you done for me. I pray that God continue to blessing you and your family.

After researching surgeons and seeing great reviews for Dr. Charles Chang, I was able to see him to get his opinion on my back problem. I had been suffering from 'spinal stenosis’, with pain shooting down my legs for over 3 years. I was told by other doctors, to medicate, to know that everyone has some pain and deal with it, that there was no guarantee surgery would help, to take pain management etc. When I saw Dr. Chang he was welcoming, soft spoken, kind and confident He confidently explained to me what he could do surgically to help me. He explained he could do a lumbar laminectomy, what it involved, including preparing for it and the recovery. He was so pleasant and positive! I literally felt joyful after talking with him because he gave me hope that I'd get better, that I'd be able to stop taking pain meds, and that I could get my life back! My surgery went very well and the day of the surgery I went home and already had NO MORE pain in my legs! Dr. Chang followed up… with me a week after the surgery and was receptive to all my questions. I'm so grateful and was so lucky to have Dr. Chang as my surgeon with his expert skills and very kind and helpful manner.

I immediately felt at ease with Dr. Chang because of his excellent bedside manner. He is professional, experienced, and patient. He explained my condition and what needed to be done to correct it. Before my spinal surgery I was in soul crushing pain. I woke up knowing my day would be a struggle, but I put off surgery because I was afraid of it. Had I known that the quality of my life would have been so much better I would have had the surgery when all other alternatives failed. When I couldn’t live with being housebound because of pain and decided to have the surgery I got my life back. Dr. Chang walked me through the process and I felt confident and comfortable with his expertise and warm, concerned manner. I could go on and on about his care and the aftermath of surgery, but instead, let me give you an example. I had given up my family’s annual reunion in Palm Springs because it was just too hard and frankly I didn’t want them to think of me in a wheelchair. I had the surgery and in one month I joined more than nineteen members of my family who flew in from all over including Europe and had a joyous time. I told Dr. Chang that he had changed my life forever because he did.… Again, I could go on and on but I have gardening work to be done and I relish the fact that I can now do it.

At my first meeting, Dr. Chang put me completely at ease with his manner and obvious competence. His patience in describing the surgery itself, and advise as to what would be expected and anticipated over not only the time at Kaiser, but the follow up thereafter, were very helpful in removing almost all anxiety over the procedure; as I had stopped walking 6 months prior and thought I could not survive the surgery due to all the other problems I had. Everything you predicted was exactly what occurred. Further, the experience at Sunset Blvd was everything I could expect; the surgical team, the nurses, staff, the comfort of the facility, were outstanding. When discussing this particular surgery with others, I am always the first to tell this story of success. Currently, I have regained probably 99% of my prior strength and use of my back in the many physical things I normally had done. I have resumed gardening, cooking, walking and exercising; are all back to normal. I will… shortly be 80 years old and thanks to you I am looking forward to an active life once again. Dr. Chang gave my wife and I confidence in his abilities from the first visit. His extraordinary "bedside manner" and knowledge of how to best alleviate my pain, discomfort, and limited abilities of motion, prompted us to set a date for surgery. Everything went well and the out come, now 2 months after the surgery is just a "night & day " difference. The range of motion and ability to get back to regular physical activity even at this early stage of recovery is phenomenal. Dr. Chang, his PA's, the nursing staff, and all at Kaiser Sunset were so nurturing and spread smiles through their professionalism.
