Dr. Gerald Michael Sacks, MD

I am a long-term patient of Dr. Sacks after multiple back surgeries that, while "fixing" my ruptured discs, left me with "failed back surgery syndrome." In other words, the nerves never recovered and are basically shot despite the discs being fixed after the second surgery. Through word of mouth, I was fortunately referred to Dr. Sacks has helped me resume normal functionality without pain meds or sleep meds. In fact, while managing my pain with twice-monthly shots, he also helped me ditch the sleep meds that a previous provider prescribed. I haven't taken any meds in well over a decade. As to my twice-monthly shots, Dr. Sacks' precision is second-to-none. At each visit, I describe the spots where the pain is most prominent which is never the same in each visit, yet Dr. Sacks nails the spots and I am good to go for a few weeks. In cases where my pain has increased significantly, he is also outstanding with epidurals. The office is well-organized and efficiently scheduled so I… almost never have to wait, either. If your goal is to get back some if not all of your functionality with a straight-shooting specialist, Dr. Sacks is the man....

Should not be practicing medicine. Lies in people's charts. Threatening, harassing. Claims you are a drug addict even if you don't want drugs. Won't tell you what he wants to give you which happens to be illegal btw. Tries to force injections on you and gets belligerent if you don't want them. If you don't agree with everything he says he tells you to see a psychiatrist. He's a crazy person.

He understood exactly what I was experiencing and put me on a pain medicine regime that addressed each of my symptoms. He also educated me on pain and explained how each medication would affect me (something I feel few doctors do). Later on, I was hospitalized due to a disc herniation. I was admitted to the emergency room. Dr. Saks contacted the emergency room doctors and ensured that I was receiving adequate care and worked with the hospital doctors to make sure that the pain regime the hospital put me on was correct in addressing my pain. Dr. Saks checked in with me throughout my 8 day hospital stay and when I was discharged ensured that the medicines I was put on were correct. I cannot speak more highly of Dr. Saks and recommend him to anyone experiencing chronic pain.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Sacks at St. John’s recently after my extensive cancer surgery. He explained everything to me and went above and beyond the call of duty to help me and my family. Dr Sacks is the best doctor at St John’s and the best doctor I have ever known.

Dr Sacks is a steady hand in these difficult days of pain management. His structure although somewhat difficult in the beginning turns outs to be a consistency that is much appreciated.

Dr. Sachs was recently assigned to a family member in an inpatient setting and prescribed him double the doses of his pain medication he normally takes. My family member was in no pain and has had the pain managed well with the dose that had been prescribed by a pain specialist who had been managing the pain for years. The normal physician was shocked that he would prescribe those doses at dangerous levels and decreased the levels to the appropriate dosages.

He took the time to understand everything that I had going on medically and was a life saver when it came to my pain. I ended up moving to Florida but I sure wish he was still my doctor.
