Dr. Charles Andrew Kutler, MD

I took my daughter to Dr. Kutler for a second opinion on Lyme disease. It's a long story, but she had been diagnosed, treated for 7 months, was doing well and then fell apart again. Doctor she had been with diagnosed it as something different than lyme second time around, which made no sense to me since the issues started 5 days after coming off antibiotics. Dr. Kutler read through her notes before coming in the room and basically came in with a diagnosis already. That was that there was nothing wrong with her, that she was crazy and we were enabling her and all needed family therapy. He then proceeded to refer me to a family therapist, who just so happened to be his wife. He never listened to anything we had to say and kept insisting there was nothing wrong with her. If you don't have a positive Lyme test, he won't treat it. I found a LLMD who did clinically diagnose and treat her. Dr. Kutler was horrible and my 11 year old daughter left sobbing. Then several times during… the appointment he'd stop talking and look at us and just say, Hi, how are you. It was really weird. I would NEVER recommend him to anyone for anything.

Very thorough. Good listener. Explained everything. Not rushed. Highly recommend.

Wouldn't let me speak and came in with a chip on his shoulder as big as a plank. Continued to lecture me and said he was too old to take any abuse when he was doing all the abuse. Trust me, if you need a compassionate doctor with aa decent bedside manner, he is not the one. Do as I tell you and no questions. Acted like he was paying me instead of the other way around. Will never go back to him under any circumstances.

Exceptional for unusual cases related to international travel

Just visited today, so not sure about follow up after visit. The office receptionist was the best, friendliest I have ever encountered.

An absolutely amazing doctor. I highly recommend, in fact, I have referred to him several times. Great bed-side manner, extremely knowledgeable and pushed insurance company to give the best care. I wouldn't go anyway else again.

Dr. Kutler is very thorough and explains exactly how he is proceding and why. He listens well and is compassionate.

I am not a patient who needs my hand held, nor do I call to speak with dr. unless in an extreme emergency (which has never happened).But for all Dr. Kutlers education and ability he is as cold and dismissive as a rookie state trooper.When the nurse staff makes a mistake, there is no accountability, not even a "sorry there was an oversight".The dr. stands behind their mistakes as they turn it around to blame the patient in the best way they can.I am undergoing the triple therapy hep c treatment at present.Apparently no one on staff noted when I began (I went to be shown how to give myself the shot and began then) everyone was on lunch except the nurse who went through it w/ me in a hurry, so in her haste to join the others I guess she failed to write it down, nor did his nurse assistant whom I called to ask a couple of questions of. So six weeks into it when I saw the dr. he asked "why are you here? are you ready to start the treatment? I very calmly answered that I had been on it for… 6 weeks...At that moment he said "excuse me for a moment" and left the room, period, not another thing said about it.When he came back, nothing, no "Im sorry for this mix up", "I am sorry you have been doing this without our support all this time, please forgive the error" nothing.Instead he chose to behave as if it is their mistake, it is no big deal and if glossed over the "ignorant patient" might not notice.He brushed over it insultingly and just said "you need to get some blood work downstairs".At a later appt. he looked at me and asked me if I were "sure" of the date and that it couldnt be right...I kindly informed him that not only had I written it on the calander, but that my mother in another state wrote it down b/c we did the first shot on the phone.He looked at me incredulously as if to say "but you just cant be right" and asked me to come look on the computer w/ him. As if I was wrong about the first time I gave myself the stomach shot and didn't write it down properly!The next thing was the neupogin I needed to come into the office for, for three days in a row.After the first time, his nurse said upon me leaving (very disingenuously and condecendingly b/c she was just happy it was time to go home, "can you come back for your shot tomorrow by 4? I explained that it would be much better if it were 5 b/c otherwise I will lose an 2 hours pay and have to find someone to cover me..They are open until 5:30.She turned to me in this girly way and said "it would be better for me, youre my patient and I get a little "territorial" about them"I said okay and went through the machinations of getting there by 4 the next day.I went into the little rm they give the shot in and another nurse started to administer it while the original nurse was standing talking at the desk, yes, she had seen me come in..I said "I think I am supposed to see the other nurse". To which the girl replied as she opened the fridge and got out the injection "no, it doesnt matter who gives it to you, it only takes a second".As I walked out I waved at the original nurse who by then had long forgotton she had asked me to go out of my way to see her and miss time from work to accomodate her schedule.The next day I was unable to get out of work and went the day after.I walked in and the original nurse very coldly says "I guess you didnt get my message? where were you yesterday?I explained that there was really just no one available to cover me.But as i stood there while she gruffly applied the alcohol I said"you realize I came in early the day before b/c you asked me to and missed work to do it".She instantly demanded that SHE needed to get home to her child that day (she is around 25 and hangs out on break smoking in the parking lot).Not yelling at all I said "but you were standing in the hall talking at the nurses desk when I walked past"She then yelled "how dare I question her and how hard she had worked on getting my insurance to go through" I said "why are you being defensive? I am just pointing out that you have no right to be barking at me after having not even marked down that I had started the treatment WEEKS ago.She put me in the room and slammed the door.I stood there in disbelief for a moment and opened the door where she stood at the nurses desk.I whispered "listen, I dont want to have trouble and I am just trying to talk and avoid speaking to the dr. about it"She then said "close the door please".When the dr. came in he gave me a sermon about HIS staff and how they should be treated...I said "dr. please understand, you have misunderstood" to which he ignored me and said "you need to go downstairs and get labs drawn again, I dont want to hear it". I said "dr. Kutler, I really think you have me mistaken for a different kind of person, I really am a decent person" to which he "kept looking at the door and said "so are we".The next nurse they gave me tried to blame the fact that I hadn't "picked up" my meds from the pharmacy (she had called me that morning saying they were at the dr.s office and where was I).I went to the drugstore w/ a tape recorder in my hand as the 3 pharmacy staff told me this was ridiculous, that she had not called the drugs in until a few minutes before....She flipped it on me to my face to avoid admitting she had forgotten.Then guess what she did? complained to the dr. that I had complained....Who do you think he believed? exactly...I tried my best to be compliant and polite in hopes that it would soften them enough that it wasn't so intimidating going there every week.The term is being "gaslighted" I believe.This is how far they have gone to stay on the good side of the dr. and he is such a charmless/dry creature that he believes them.I have never encountered anything like this in my life before, just unbelievable.And truly, I am just happy to be getting the treatment, do not need them to elicit ANY special

Dr. Cutler did not listen to me when I knew I had Lyme's disease. He was ready to do thousands of dollars of unnecessary tests, even when I had told him just do the Lyme's test. He felt my symptoms could have been anything, including HIV. Highly unlikely! Wow! am I crazy, or just the upstate infectious disease doctors? Dr. Cutler was the second infectious disease doctors that mentioned HIV as a possible diagnosis, for my symptoms. The other doctor, was Dr Finklestein of Poughkeepsie. Well my Lyme's test result came back positive. Oh, did I mention that I had to beg for an appointment and also the Lyme's test? These doctors need to wake up because Duchess county has the highest rate of Lyme's disease cases in the world, followed by Ulster county. HIV doesn't even rank.
