Dr. Chester Mark Robachinski, MD

I had questions about my son's decision to continue his life as a transgender person. He started seeing therapist in Bellingham due to anxiety. I thought I'd have him talk to a specialist in Seattle. I called Associates in Behavioral Health, as they specialize in LGBT issues. My therapist suggested them as a good place to start. I thought it would help me to figure out what was going on and to have my questions and concerns addressed. When a parent goes to a specialist to talk about sensitive issues and major changes in their child's and family's life, he/she expects some help and advice. It wasn't the case. Instead I was called an ignorant homophobe and was told to educate myself by reading books and looking into websites. When I inquired what it is like to be living as a woman, he mocked me saying, "Well, you have short hair and wear slacks and shirt, so you don't look very feminine". And said I had a narrow minded image of what living as a woman would be like, as, according to… him, I based it on looks. Yes, I was nervous and stressed when I went there and got emotional, too, but there is no need to take an advantage of it and make me feel horrible. He doesn't know me. The only thing he got was "you seem to have empathy". I was so taken aback by his ignorance, arrogance and mansplaining that I didn't even manage to respond properly. It was overwhelming. All of my concerns were brushed off and ignored. And I was repeatedly told how ignorant and uneducated I was. The other psychiatrist who is not taking new patients (just like Dr. Robachinski) also returned my call and when I told him the Dr. Chet Robachinski got back to me and I set an appointment with him said, "Well, Chet Robachinski is really nice". I am really wondering what it would be like to see "not so nice" specialist in that clinic. Also, Chet Robachinski told me that most of his patients are on spectrum, aka autistic. So, has anybody done any research of what came first? But that would be a question for scientists and, well, actual doctors who know what they are doing.

I've been seeing Dr. Robachinski for nearly a decade and I can't imagine life without him. He doesn't do 15 minute "med checks" but insists on 30 minute visits with his patients. He is either on call or has someone covering for him., I've never been unable to get a prescription filled. He is on top of the research in his field and is willing to aggressively treat issues. He has been smart, humble, and caring.

He always seems to have a good grasp of the medicine he is prescribing, and gives very straight forward answers.
