Dr. Chi Chi Lau, MD

Dr Chi Chi Lau, Burlington VT, University of Vermont Health Network. I was poor when I had gotten an appointment to see a rheumatologist in Burlington VT and after a long wait I was seen by a doctor who made it crystal clear that she held my "complaints" in the utmost contempt. It was devastating to say the least. There is cruel and there is brutally cold. I write here years after the visit because it was the prelude to malignant hypertension and years of pain. I did go to other doctors who were kind but my belief in the medical system that they could help me with my pain was destroyed by Dr. Chi Chi Lau. Just today as I reluctantly went to my primary caregiver, I realized that the ???????????? caused by Dr Lau has prevented me from actually following up on possible treatments that could have made a difference in this lifetime of pain

She should not be a doctor

I've seen six rheumatologists all over the country, and Dr Lau wasn't the worst. ("Best" doesn't apply to rheumatologists. They all seem to be some degree of unhelpful.) She's very laid-back, quiet. She did listen to my whole history, and didn't seem exasperated by my intelligence, as doctors usually do. She at least agreed that I do have a rheumatic disease, and prescribed Plaquenil to see if anything might happen. My thought was, too little too late, and as my condition has worsened considerably, I appear to have been exactly right, as I have been all along. No follow-up whatsoever. Remember: you don't matter to these people. They just have too many patients to consider you as a real human being.
