Dr. Chi Chiou Liu, MD

If you are an old school patient who is comfortable giving your doctor complete authority and will not question him, he may be for you. You also must be willing to wait a few hours to be seen, after your scheduled appointment time. (both appointments I had the wait in the reception area was over an hour, with an additional hour wait in the exam room.) He also considers himself "current", yet was unaware of a major prescribing change and warning about a group of antibiotics that was released by the FDA over 1 year ago. He dismisses new information and opinions within the medical community on a number of issues, relying on his own opinions.

Unfortunately, I feel this practice exemplifies the problem with health care costs in America. My family shops for services of all kinds, medical included. And we don't use labs that charge 40, 50 and 60% more than the lab recommended by the doctor's office. I liked Dr. Liu very much, but, in my opinion, his staff could use some training. As an aside, the exam room table used for my evaluation could use some new upholstery. And I have also seen nicer restrooms in gas stations. My greatest sense of frustration came from attempting to obtain test results which should, in no way, be this difficult. Either the lab is not telling the truth--and they have a fax stamp with the date and time the results were sent--or, the doctors office staff got them and didn't want to bother entering the data, manually. They use the far more expensive vendor that will send results electronically to the doctors office. Regardless of the circumstances, I think that doctors and their staffs… should be trying to put patients' minds at ease, not make their lives more difficult. I worked under the HIPAA system since its inception and I have never heard of a practice turning off their fax machine at the close of business each afternoon. My office left ours up and running around the clock, with the requisite number of locks to satisfy the then current standard. Perhaps, this accounts for missing documents faxed to this office. Be aware, this practice discouraged my shopping for labs by price. If more of us engaged in this practice, we just might find that medical costs really can be made more reasonable. I have good insurance, for those who may not, price is key to saving money, whether it's a house or car or the services of a doctor. I didn't rate the doctor's diagnostic skill as I'm still experiencing the pain even after taking the first course of the prescribed medication. In fairness, it may take some time to get this issue resolved by any doctor, I suppose. And no rating was given for Follow-up after visit as I had to initiate the follow-up, and just thought it appropriate to point out that I found it to be was an altogether unsatisfying event.
