Dr. Chitra Vaidyanathan, MD

My son was a patient of Dr. Chitra Vaidy. When he was 2 years old we explained many red flag concerns we/he had been experiencing. We were told "That's just who he is and he will have to learn how to deal with it his whole life." After further pressing she gave us a referral to a phycologist to "ease our mind". Not liking her response we switched to another pediatrician who immediately referred him to be evaluated at Kennedy Krieger Institute. Fast forward 2 years later and he has been diagnosed and treated for various conditions. His growing list includes sensory processing disorder, speech sound disorder, receptive/expressive language delay, anxiety, ADHD, minor neuromotor abnormalities, and fine motor delay. Bottom line is my son was 2, with parents who knew something wasn't right and it was affecting his quality of life. We reached out for help from Dr. Vaidy and our concerns were brushed off. I hate to imagine how my son's life would have been impacted if we didn't reach out… for help elsewhere. I also worry about other children, both present and future, under Dr. Vaidy's care.

Awful behavior. Angry that my teenager expressed doubts of her ability to properly diagnose her at a previous appointment. (She was very upset at the time, as she was diagnosed with a concussion and would have to stop her sport for a time.) Upon seeing us in the examination room for our most current appointment, she began the appointment by berating us for coming in to see her since, according to her, my daughter didn't trust her ability to diagnose her at an appointment that occurred two or three of months prior. After ranting and raving for a few moments, she finally examined her. Upon examination, she told us that my daughter did not have any of the symptoms she obviously had - extremely bad congestion, ear pain, up with a congested cough all night, for multiple nights - after a round of antibiotics for a sinus and ear infection, as diagnosed by another doctor. (A doctor who Dr. Vaidy, ironically, expressed doubt about having diagnosed her properly in the first place - stating… that she doubted she had had an ear infection when she was diagnosed by that doctor.) She insisted that I get up and look in my daughter's ear myself. After insisting nothing was wrong with my daughter, and mentioning MANY times that my daughter did not trust her, she wrote a prescription for antibiotics anyway. I would think that a pediatrician would expect that all children are not going to be excited to see her - especially when they are having a medical issue. Additionally, to prescribe an antibiotic for her after claiming she wasn't sick is mind-boggling in itself. However, it goes along with the rest of her behavior that day - simply childish.

Good in diagnosing. on-time care and ease of appointment. In my child's case, she just brushed-off my concerns, saying that kids love "ATTENTION". Quickly denies your notions/ideas about your home-remedies, rather than explaining their pros n cons. overall good in following up with vaccination.

Getting appointment is quite easy. Diagnoses... well... good. the reason for my thinking is that she says that the kids do certain things like complaining of stomach ache etc., just for seeking attention. well.. may be!! but not always. she never gave me a recommendation for a specialist, and just told me to follow her medication for my child. but now i got a specialist visitation and i see a lot of improvement now. overall, good treatment though. good follow up of vaccination.

She is pretty strict and always has a serious face. She almost never says goodbye. The reason why she is kind of good is because she has perseverance and never quits.
