Dr. Christine Lynn Proudfit, MD

Dr. Proudfit is the most caring doctor I’ve ever met. She has a great amount of empathy and skill. Dr. Proudfit’s bedside manner is sensitive while making the patient understand what’s going on, which is a difficult balance to strike. She takes time to answer any and all questions and makes you feel completely confident in her care. If she’s your doctor you’re lucky!

She never bothered to read my chart prior to seeing me so began with her "concern" about my low placenta and the risks to a vaginal birth when the whole reason I am going to her practice is I am a known c-section due to a prior myomectomy. Additionally, I asked her a question and she wouldn't answer because it wasn't using diagnostic terms. My sense is she is a very skilled Doctor and knows her material incredibly well, but lacks any empathy for her patients - at least that was the case with me - and comes across really robotic. I left believing she went into the field because she loves the science of this area, but not the people aspect. If she ever was pregnant, she must have had an incredibly easy pregnancy as she seems not to have any understanding for patients who might be struggling with theirs. I would prefer not to see her again given the choice. But if I had to, I have no doubt she would be fine in her ability to medically treat me. She just lacks compassion, though… does try to fake in an almost believable way.

I had a high risk pregnancy and had to have an emergency c section 1 week after hurricane sandy. During this time, despite NYU shutting down, I was in touch with Dr. Proudfit daily (sometimes in the middle of the night). Dr. Proudfit took care of me with an incredible level of skill, kindness, and concern. She was truly amazing.

Dr. Proudfit was my OB through two very complicated pregnancies. She's knowledgable, communicative, thoughtful and very supportive (my husband and I cried more than once in her office). While initially disappointed to have to see a high-risk OB (as I'd hoped to minimize interventions throughout pregnancy and delivery), I was very happy to find that Dr. Proudfit was open to my point of view and willing to consider my values and preferences in all decisions. She is a skilled doctor and a compassionate person.

Said flippantly 'I hate to say this but I don't have time for questions.'

Dr. Proudfit took great care of us throughout a difficult pregnancy.

Dr. Proudfit has a terrible bedside manner and delivery. As a previous reviewer noted, she is alarmist and quick to jump to medical intervention rather than anything natural. She spends very little time talking and explaining and more assuming and directing. It felt like the thing she liked least about what she does are the actual people involved. As a result of working with her, my birth experience became unnecessarily intervention focused, which had significant repercussions for both baby and me. I would not recommend Dr. Proudfit to anyone, nor will I work with her if we have more children.

Dr Proudfit made assumptions about my pregnancy based upon my looks before even reviewing my records and was very alarmist through the entire experience. Even when the medical records disproved her assumptions, she still was insistent they they would turn out to be true. She made the pregnancy, already an anxiety provoking experience, worse for us. She was not comforting and I was so glad to not have her at the delivery. I would not recommend her or this practice to anyone. While I found the support staff to be nice, the doctors were hit or miss. Dr Durante was great, but she is the only one I would whole heartedly recommend. There are other much better organized practices out there. The wait times at RIDICULOUS!

While Dr. Proudfit was nice, the NYU Maternal Fetal Care Center is run like a cold, heartless factory. The nurse, Jennifer, on the nurses' line is particularly unhelpful and dismissive. It's impossible to get appointments at good times and at anytime the wait is at least an hour. Everytime your visit, you will see a different, indifferent doctor for about 5 minutes total.
