Born in New York City, Dr. Duma wanted to be a doctor since age 9, having had his family doctor as a role model. He majored in Neuroscience at Colgate University as an undergrad, and went on to State University of New York for Medical School.

He achieved his number one ranked pick for Neurosurgery Residency, Georgetown University, where he spent 7 years in training. During that residency he did a one-year fellowship in Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery and Gamma Knife Radiosurgery at the University of Pittsburgh, Dept. of Neurosurgery.

He graduated in 1993 and took a position as Co-Director of the Brain Tumor and Gamma Knife program at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles, CA. Then was offered and accepted the position of Medical Director of the Gamma Knife program at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, CA in 1997. He was appointed Medical Director of the Brain Tumor Program in 2008, and the Co-director of the Movement Disorder Program in 2005. He has a …Volunteer Faculty appointment at University of California, Irvine, Department of Medicine.

He is an avid classical musician and composes and produces music for all keyboards. He is a specialist in music synthesis.

He Founded and acts as president of a 501(c)3 non-profit charity called Foundation for Neuroscience, Stroke and Recovery (www.FNSROC.org) which offers free ancillary care to patients in Orange County, CA.

Dr. Duma is a wonderful, no-nonsense brain surgeon. We came to him after mediocre experiences with two other surgeons. He quickly understood the nature and scope of my mother-in-law's Hydrocephalus and was able to correct it quickly and effectively. We could have saved months in a rehabilitation hospital had we known of him first. He has our deep gratitude and highest recommendation!

My breast cancer traveled to my brain. I had 6 tumors. Dr. Duma took care of all of them! One was so big he had to do brain surgery to remove it, the others he did radiosurgery with the gamma knife. Dr. Duma is a neurosurgeon specialist, the top in his field. My last MRI showed my brain free of cancer, thank you Dr. Duma!! I always felt that I was in the best of hands with Dr. Duma and his entire staff. Dr. Duma and his team, the Hoag Brain and Spine Surgeons of Orange County, deserve a higher rating than excellent...they are miracle workers, and just downright amazing!

Doctor Christopher Duma is truly an elite surgeon and is well versed in all aspects of neurosurgery. He carefully analyzed my test results and quickly determined a diagnosis. Dr. Duma takes the time to educate his patients regarding their conditions and treatment options. I have witnessed firsthand the compassion, dedication and kindness that Dr. Duma provides to his patients. I am forever grateful to Dr. Duma and can’t thank him enough; he has given me my life back! As a mother of 3 and surviving Breast cancer that metastasized to my Lung then to my brain, I was introduced to Dr. Duma by ways of waking up in hospital after having seizures. He explained everything and made me feel as comfortable as possible. I have had Gamma knife as well as craniotomies and I trust him so much. My family and I are grateful for him and his staff.

Dr. Duma performed my Chiari surgery at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, CA. From the start Dr. Duma was exceptional. I felt very safe and comfortable working with Dr. Duma. He asked questions, encouraged me to think through the surgery and provided pros and cons. Once I made the decision to have the surgery, his staff was able to schedule my surgery within 2 weeks. The entire staff was amazing.

Dr Duma and his marvelous team got me tumor free (4 tumors!) within 6 weeks of diagnosis. Two surgeries and gamma knife therapy and I was only in the hospital a total of 4 days and missed only one week of work. He and his team were efficient, warm, friendly and optimistic. I love these people! Thank you!
