Dr. Chistopher Winthrop Ives, MD

I had a procedure done by Dr. Ives and started having issues afterwards. Went in for a doctor visit to discuss the issues and felt like he did not believe me. He did a referral for xrays which I felt was to passify me and has been over a month since I have had the xrays. I have called Dr. Ives office 5 times, left 3 messages for his nurse and still no call back with results. Unexceptable. When I saw him for the previous 2 doctor visits, he seemed disinterested in my concerns and in a hurry. Do not go to Dr. Ives if you have concerns or issues.

After seeing Dr. Ives for several different issues over the last couple of years, I came to the conclusions that he is ALWAYS in a hurry and doesn't take the time to listen to your concerns or offer any reasons or resolutions to your symptoms. He always made me feel that I was bothering him for being there. I have sought out another gastroenterologist after wasting too much of my time going to Dr. Ives.

Dr. Ives is a seasoned professional and is an excellent physician.

Definitely the worst Doctors Experience Ever! I’m not the person to leave bad reviews, but this experience with Dr. Ives has been bothering me for weeks. I was hospitalized for a GI Bleed. I was diagnosed with Ulcer Disease, and had symptomatic Anemia due to blood loss. My Hemoglobin levels were really low and I had to have a blood transfusion. Weeks later I followed up with Dr. Ives and scheduled an EGD. All the nurses and staff were very pleasant. However, Dr. Ives came off very rude, and didn’t take the time to talk to me about what’s going on with me. He just said “Everything looks good” and walked off. I had questions that I wanted to ask him, but he had left before I could even get a chance to get them out. I had medical records that I wanted him to look at, but he didn’t take the time to talk with me. I had 3 abnormal blood test results, and he couldn’t even make time to discuss it with me. I had to get one of the nurses to tell Dr. Ives that I had some questions for… him. When he came back, I could tell that he was frustrated and didn’t won’t to answer my questions. Every question I asked, he couldn’t give me a direct answer and was just rude. It’s frustrating when you don’t know what’s going on with your body and the doctor won’t tell you crap, or even sit down and talk to you. I asked Dr. Ives could he fill out a form for my VA Benefits, he bluntly replied not right now. The whole doctor’s visit was a waste of time and money. I still have abnormal blood levels and I don’t know why.

I have never met a ruder person. My husband and one year old son were in the room with me waiting for the doctor. My husband took the morning off of work so he can go to the appointment with me since this is a serious issue. Dr. Ives told my husband that he had to take the baby outside as soon as he walked through the door. After my husband stated that he would like to be at this appointment he said that I am a big girl and that the baby would distract him. We had waited for an hour and a half to see him and he kicks them out of the room as soon as he walks through the door. He continued to be rude to me, did not read my file or speak with his nurse before walking into the room. Therefore he knew nothing about me what so ever and made me repeat everything that I had already said to the nurse while interrupting me every other sentence. He then proceeded to ask me if I smoke marijuana on a regular basis, the whole appointment was uncomfortable and humiliating. I do not recommend Dr. Ives… to anyone!!

My husband, 59 years of age, went to see Dr Ives on Monday, for two reasons: 1) He needed yearly colonoscopy due to history of pre cancerous polyps and 2) he had been having stabbing pains in stomach and nausea, daily, that was worsening. He was diagnosed last year with Tempero frontal lobe dementia. It is massively important that he is not sedated much or very often. Both reasons for visit were on his chart. When the nurse called us back, I was asked to sit in lobby and they would come back to get me in a moment. I thought the reason was to ask my husband personal questions, so no big deal. While he waited for the Dr to come in, and with me in the waiting room, he started texting me. I calmed him down, (remember, he has TFL dementia). I was waiting for them to come and get me and was going to explain the new diagnosis to Dr Ives and discuss his daily stomach pain and nausea and possibility of him needing both upper and lower scope. Of course, I thought Dr Ives being a GI… specialist would assess my husbands complaint of stabbing pain and nausea for 3 months, worsening daily. I received a text from my husband that said ”here now” which told me the Dr walked in. That was at 10:08 am. I received another text at 10:10 saying ”came and gone. Gonna take a look, whatever that means. He said she will be right in, don't know who he is talking about”. My husband has dementia and texts slow. This told me that Dr Ives came in and for a total of less than 2 minutes spent with my husband to address all of his issues... (New pain, new nausea, colonoscopy needs due to previous pre-cancer polyps, and he didn't even know about dementia). I was very kind but insisted that they allow me to go in back with him. The receptionist took me to room and I waited for Dr to come back. His nurse appeared with instructions for colonoscopy. I asked her if Dr Ives was coming back and she said no, he had already been in. I insisted that he come back and talk to me. I asked my husband if he told Dr Ives about his dementia diagnosis and of course, he did not. The nurse seemed frustrated but did get the doctor. I could hear them whispering in the hall outside our door. He was angry when he came in, and had a very defensive attitude before I said a word. His arms were crossed and he kept door wide open and loudly told me he had explained the procedure to my husband. I asked him about the pain and nausea and he said, ”your husband told me and I'm going to take a look at it”. I said ”oh, so you are going to do an upper and a lower GI?” He responded, ”no, I'm going to do the colonoscopy first and bring him back for the upper, I don't do them at the same time”. I told him my husband has dementia and I didn’t think it would be good for him to be sedated twice, as this could cause him to decline even further. He, very rudely said, ”he told me about the dementia”, which my husband said he didn't even have time to talk about pain, much less dementia. Dr. Ives was frustrated but agreed that he would make an exception and do both at the same time. He was very aggravated with me. He spent a total of about 90 seconds with my husband. He never touched him. He never felt of his stomach or even asked where the pain was exactly. I am a nurse, and I have never in my life seen this poor of an excuse of a doctor. I am blown away. I would NEVER allow anyone with such little care and in such a hurry touch my husband, much less scope him. This is the first and only time I have ever written on any physician. I wish someone would have warned me. Praise God I learned prior to the colonoscopy. In addition, I took my husband to his neurology appointment yesterday. I never spoke a word about Dr Ives and his incompetence. I did, however, ask him about sedation for colonoscopy and dangers of him being sedated with dementia. He verbalized that it needs to be done at one time and with minimal sedation, as it could make dementia worse, just as I knew. We have a new appointment with a Gastroenterologist in Mobile. Dr. Ives... No thank you. I believe we will pass.

Just came from Dr. Ives’ office where my husband had an appointment. First the nurse called in my husband and would not let me (the spouse) come in. When my husband could not answer several of the nurse’s questions she reluctantly let me in. I was reading some information taped to the door when Dr. Ives charged in through the door without an excuse me or a hello. In a very offensive and demanding tone he asked my husband “what are you here for”? My husband was so startled over his terrible demeaner that he just stared at him. So, I started to explain why we were there etc. Dr. Ives told me “you don’t talk until I tell you that you can talk because I am talking to him”. Needless to say the appointment was over at that point. I am 69 years old and my husband is 72 years old and NEVER have we been treated so disrespectfully by any physician or medical person. DO NOT BOTHER TO GO TO DR IVES IF YOU ARE EXPECTING BASIC COURTESIES.

I do not understand so many negative feedback. I have been seen by this doctor for the last 10 years. I have no complaint. He always be nice and precisely with his diagnostic.

The rudest so-called "DR." I've ever been to. He would not allow my spouse in the room with me and told me if she stayed in there, he wasnt going to see me. I asked for my money back and he had no problem giving it back to me with an attitude as he walked me out to the reception. Not only was he very rude and arrogant but his staff was an exact representation of him! Never ever will I recommend him to anybody. You're a doctor and you are supposed to be respectful to your patients no matter the situation. From his reviews alot ov people feel the same way. Good thing I didnt put my trust and health in his hands. I might even contact the BBB. This place is a joke!

I have had my first and last visit with this guy. His staff was great but when it came time to meet him it was a completely different story. The guy was abrasive,uncaring,rude and abrupt. lesson learned.
