Dr. Christopher Paul Smith, MD

22+ years of experience, hundreds of procedures, but not one review? Perhaps we forget the last person we see before we go under? Well, I certainly will not forget Dr. Christopher Smith who was the anesthesiologist during my hand surgery at Congress Medical Associates in Pasadena, CA. Dr. Smith was a blast; 100 percent professional, 100 percent personable. You can just tell he enjoys what he does. His manner exhumes self-confidence but not in a conceited way but rather a â??no sweatâ?? way. Even when discussing somewhat alarming subjects, i.e, â??may need to insert tubes down the nose and clear out any buildup of fluids in thereâ?? he minimized it by saying â??youâ??ll be asleep anyway.â?? Just before he put me under, he said it was time for â??ourâ?? cocktail and I jokingly said â??What do you mean by our cocktail?â?? â??At the rate you get paid, you should be able to buy your own!â?? We laughed, I canâ??t explain it â?¦I just knew everything was going to go perfectly. My… friends and family had warned me that I probably would feel like throwing up when I woke in recovery but I didnâ??t feel nauseous at all. This was another indication to me that Dr. Smith knew what he was doing. Later, I discovered that Dr. Smith is primarily a highly regarded and high in demand anesthesiologist at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena. So much in demand that surgeons have delayed procedures just to wait for him to become available from other procedures he was involved in. I realize that we generally do not have a choice of anesthesiologists, but thank goodness I had Dr. Smith as mine. Dr. Smith monitored and regulated my breathing, my consciousness (or more accurately, lack of) throughout my 4 hour surgery and contributed a positive attitude that is so very critical to full recovery. He certainly deserves the best possible ratings â?? and my sincere thanks.
