Dr. Colin Archibald Mccannel, MD

Dr. McCannel operated on my 16 year old daughter's eye after a trauma, and proved to be an excellent physician, extremely knowledgeable and willing to explain complicated procedures and anatomy in detail. After a long surgery, he had to break the news to me that my daughter would not see again with her injured eye, and he handled what must have been a heart-breaking task with care and professionalism. I have been grateful all through this process for his advice, experience and personal accessibility ... I have never doubted that my daughter has received the best possible medical care, and I deeply appreciate his concern for her physical and emotional healing. I highly recommend Dr. McCannel.

Greatest eye doctor!

Dr. McCannel is a true medical professional whose integrity and expertise I can rely on without any reservations. This is why I would rather drive 3-4 hours each way across towns to see Dr. McCannel than see someone near my residence. I am keenly aware of the importance of vision to a person and therefore can only allow my eyes to be in the safe and sure hands of his. Thank you, Dr. McCannel!

He is very thorough, experienced and is amazing at his job. He lets you know exactly what is going on, and is very clear when answering questions. He diagnosed issues outside an ophthalmologist realm that specialists never found. I feel like I couldn't be in better hands when I visit.

knows his stuff. doesn't communicate much. it is best to get a copy of your medical records to find out what is wrong with you. But he notes things in the medical records that other doctors don't notice.

Dr. McCannel is professional, thorough and knowledgeable. He listens and takes the time to answer in detail. He also suggested I get a blood test for West Nile Virus after hearing my story of being hospitalized. I did test positive. I found him caring and an "outside the box" thinker.

After 30+ years of retina problems, Dr McCannel is my favorite retina doctor. My retina issues are complex and over the years I have seen retina specialists in multiple US and international sites. He is the first doctor I have ever followed (ie. Mayo to UCLA). When things are serious he will be 'all business', but he really is very caring. He takes into consideration your personal needs and lifestle when discussing options. Technically he is very good in surgery (yes I was awake and remember!). I have so much respect for him and appreciate all he has done.

Dr. McCannel took over my case after a 2nd retinal detachment in 2002 in his days at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. I was very sorry to have him leave Mayo. He was very professional, was able to explain things to me in ways I can understand, gave me all the options before I made a decision on any procedure, and was quick to have me come and see him when I began developing problems in my left eye. Mine was not an easy case, to which he would attest. But I thank the Lord every day that our paths crossed, because had it not been for him and the staff at Mayo, I may not have either eye functioning very well. And, while I many time pined for a Vitrectomy in the left eye to get rid of these floaters, he would calmly tell me why that WASN'T a good idea at the time. Some Doctors would perhaps jump at the chance to do another (expensive) surgery to take care of the issue. Dr. McCannel took the time to remind me of what had occurred in 2002 with my right eye. He always said he would do it if… I wanted him to, but at the same time he would me remind me of the risks vs. the benefits of vitrectomy surgery, and with a now 7 year old girl and a 15 month old boy, seeing them grow with the nuisance of the floaters if far more preferable than not seeing them, perhaps at all. I cannot say enough about Dr. McCannel's abilities.
