I was born and raised in Chicago Illinois and am an unapologetic Bears and Cubs fan. I received my BA from Carlton College in Minnesota and then attended the University of Illinois Medical School. Upon completion of my MD, the sand and surf of Southern California drew me to my residency at Los Angeles Childrens Hospital. I never went back to the snow.

I wanted to be a pediatrician since the age of 3. I have found it both fulfilling and a lot of fun. I am honored to be a part of my patients lives and I enjoy working with teenagers. To provide outstanding …health care for my patients I believe strongly that I need to work closely and communicate effectively with my patients and their families. I will always honor a families belief system, and I will always do my best to provide the best, and safest care possible. Finally I believe it is essential to involve the patient and their family in medical decisions.

I joined Kaiser Permanente in 1990 because I was looking for a multi-specialty practice to work in. This is important to me because I can take advantage of the shared knowledge of all of the clinicians I work with instead of just working on my own. For some of the trickier diagnoses that I have made, I have found this ability to speak with MDs down the hall invaluable. Kaiser Permanente also allowed me to practice preventive medicine which is something I believe strongly in. During my career I have had the opportunity to work at 3 different Kaiser Permanente locations including Redwood City, Santa Theresa/Gilroy and Santa Rosa. Although each location is slightly different, the general philosophy of preventive care is evident in all.

Teaching and watching children and families grow are the reasons that I find pediatrics such a fulfilling specialty. It is a very happy specialty. For the most part, kids get better, and they make you laugh.
Roles and Responsibilities

I have had multiple roles while at Kaiser Permanente but am most interested in service and quality of care.

I was the lead physician responsible for service at both Redwood City Kaiser and Gilroy.

I taught physician communication skills for 15 years.

I was Assistant Chief of Pediatrics in Redwood City and am currently Assistant Chief of Pediatrics in charge of quality at Santa Rosa.

I was the head of health education in Gilroy.

I am currently the medical head of our eating disorder clinic.

My specialty interests and affiliations within my field:
While I enjoy children of any age, I have a special interest in adolescent medicine.

I share a practice with Dr. Rubin. I am in the office 8:30am-5:00pm Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Monday and Friday, I am in the office 8:30am-12:30pm.
