Dr. Courtney K Barton, MD

My wife and I have seen Dr Barton since we moved to N Texas, mainly because the office is close. She found a major health problem and referred me to a specialist for treatment. We got the care we needed, until this week. I had a CT Scan a while back and a medication adjustment. The heart surgeon at UT Southwestern in Dallas requested that labs needed to be done in 2 weeks. The order was sent to Dr Barton to save me a trip to Dallas. I received no communication as to when to have labs done from Dr Barton's office. After the 3rd week I called and told the office I needed labs done and that the surgeon in Dallas had sent the order. They did return my call, but I missed it and no message was left. I went in yesterday on my own and was told that Dr Barton had refused to have it done. They told me Dr Barton said there was a problem the last time her office did my labs. They wouldn't say why it was refused. Dr Barton overruled a Heart Transplant Surgeon at UTSW. Dr Barton refused to talk with… me personally and explain. I would never recommend this doctor or USMD on Scripture St in Denton.

Our family has gone to Dr Barton for about eight years. I’ve always dealt with the incredible long wait times and terribly inefficient staff because I had a good rapport with Dr. Barton. But what happened yesterday I will never go back!! I called in at 8:00 am with concerns of very high blood sugar. The nurse said we need to get you in immediately. But dr Barton has no opening. Will you see a nurse practitioner? Sure I will. If you feel it’s urgent I will see whoever you have available. Oh well now that I look we don’t have anyone until tomorrow. Well should I go to urgent care? Let me talk to Dr Barton and call you right back. The next part I know will be unbelievable but it truly happened. The nurse called me four times every two hours saying she was trying to catch dr Barton between appointments but hadn’t yet and she would call me when she had an answer. On the fourth call at 4:00 she said okay. I did address everything with dr Barton... let me look on… the computer and see if she gave an answer. Oh no sorry she hasn’t yet. I said.., is this some kind of joke? Quit calling me and having me step out of meetings four times for you to not have an answer. I’m assuming this is not of concern or urgent the way you are treating it. Oh no I’m not saying that. She wants to see you ASAP.. okay. But you won’t see me? You are making no sense. She said let me grab her and ask her what to do. Okay. Well this is the fifth time you are going to grab her.... so then I miss a call at 5:41 because I gave up... and she never even left a message of what she would like for me to do. Never got a call the next day. This is so unacceptable in health care I will never be back!!!!

Good with kids and adults. Our family has been seeing her for 10 years. Recommend highly.

I am new to the area and need a new primary care physician...I asked my co-workers who they would recommend, this doctor's name came up. Since I prefer a female PCP I decided to call and try them out at least once...what a mistake.

The front office staff and office manager Jennifer is the worse! LAZY! Will not return a phone call.

Great family doctor!

Doctor seems nice and is patient. Office staff is another story. They do not return phone calls. Even if it is an urgent call. I do not even think anyone answers the phone. One day left 5 voice mails that father is in hospital and no return call. If I let my employees run like this I would not have a business. It was interesting that others have had similar issues with the office not answering the phone or returning calls. Ultimately the doctor is responsible for their staff and should be held responsible.

This is one of those doctors that believe that quantity is better than quality.

When you are put on hold 4 times for over 47 minutes, NOT GOOD!

Dr. Barton is a nice and pleasant person. That is not what I am looking for in a doctor. I want someone to actively take care of me and not just throw prescription drugs at me (a pill for your ill). I will ask her questions and she will respond with a vague and generic answer. Regardless of how I tell her I feel she has already made her decision on what care route she will take. I have had abnormal lab results because I was deficient in a particular vitamin which explains some but not all my symptoms. She didn't seem the least bit concerned and I already take a vitamin supplement and eat a healthy diet so I shouldn't be deficient. She didn't even discuss the results she just sent a prescription to the pharmacy to attempt to correct the deficiency. She does not listen to my concerns nor does she explore why I am ill or feel tired all of the time. If you have a complicated issue don't expect her to help you resolve the situation. She will just prescribe you medication to suppress your… symptoms and not truly improve your health. We are in charge of our own health so if you are a dissatisfied patient like me continue your search in finding a physician that will have a health partnership with you and not just negate mediocre care like doctors that are like Dr. Barton.
