Dr. Craig Robert Dubois, MD

My primary care Dr. referred me to D. DuBois in the '80's. The difference in my quality of life, especially my ability to walk, was near- miraculous! Since he stopped practicing for a while, I have been to several other "pain" Doctors, not one of whom could compare - especially in the areas of compassion an overall concern.

I could write a book telling how much I appreciate the attention Dr. Dubois has given me and my concerns. He listens, no, I mean he really listens. An hour with him is not uncommon. If Dr. Dubois does not feel he is the best doctor for your concern he works with colleagues that are experts in that field. He consults with them and gives you his best opinion what your next step might be. The colleagues and he then work together to come up with a solution. I have seen way too many doctors over the past two years trying to get my situation under control. Dr. Dubois and his dedication to detail have done more for me that all the others doctors put together. I recommend him highly.

I was a patient of Dr. DuBois' for over 10 years before he took a sabbatical from practice and I am seeing him again. He listens, he takes your concerns seriously and he will do everything he can to give you relief from your pain. I have counted the days until he came back to practice again.

My ratings above are for Dr. Craig DuBois prior to joining Austin Pain Associates in 2009. I have been a patient of Dr. DuBois for over a decade. For those many years of office visits, Seton NW Hosptial Pain Center procedures and medications, I must say that Dr. DuBois saved my life. I was in intolerable pain after a serious car accident, was passed around to numerous doctors and physical therapists for an entire year before finally being referred to a Board Certified Neurologist, Dr. Craig DuBois. He diagnosed my chronic pain, prescribed medication and provided medical procedures at Seton NW Hospital and physical therapies that turned my life around...I became a functioing person again able to have a relationship with my spouse, a prosperous career and enjoy life. Dr. DuBois is very direct in his manner, treatment and recommendations for medications or therapies (surgery, physical therapy, alternative therapy-yoga, counseling, etc). And yes, sometimes I waited up to 45 minutes… for my appointment, but once into the exam room, he took his time and was very thorough with his patients and sometimes spent 25 to 35 minutes (he wasn't a clock watcher). He is still treating me, however, if whatever personal reasons forced him to join a large pain practice have changed his manner or behaviour, only those of you who have been long time patients of his can ask him his reasons, I did, and he was very forthcoming with the truth.As for the Austin Pain Associates practice, my opinion of them is there first goal is: make money, their second: help the patient. My ratings for them would be consistent with what the folks above have already scored and commented on.

I tried to deal with this doctor for a number of years when I finally asked him as I was leaving one day; I said is there anything more I can be doing to help myself? He said what do you think you should do? I said if I knew that I wouldn't need you would I? I said with my normal smile not thinking anything negative at all. The next day he fired me as his patient. During appointments He was very curt, he pushed medication very aggressively. I mean like starting narcotics. He was dismissive to any ideas or questions. He didn't want to hear what you thought of your symptoms. He kept insisting on new medications as they would become first available. Knowing I was concerned about using medications that were unproven he still would try and sell me on the latest drugs. I swear this is the doctor you know was totally sold by the pharmacy companies. I finally agreed after three months of his pushing a new med tried it to only end up in hospital 1 hour later with a heart attack. When I told… him the next visit of the very bad reaction to the drug he simply said well don't take it anymore.

I have been a patient for many many yrs-and now that he is with pain associates-I cant even get a appointment-was taken off my meds-due to a pharmacy error-even tho I had proof-the staff are rude and his rules and charges are rediculous-He is burned out and no one there cares about you

I cannot beleive this is what he said to me mary I cannot help you because this is a small town and therfore people talk . Yes what ever happened to doctor/client patient confidential? He must of been speaking to the quacks when in deed I have witnesse what a doctor put me through and how another doctor lied > I have hard evidence.There behaviuor was bordreline crazy. Physical abuse. and I even caught a doctor who thought I was lieing and he went and talked to another doctor to back up my story>He came back with such a grin on his face and asking questions in which I beleive I am about the nicest person and honset person you could meet > he ended it with calling me names and a liar and yelling when I had pnemonia and a fever. I went into a angina attack. we founf out later he went to a different doctor that had the names that sound alikeHines and Heinz. But this doctor went carzy in front of his whole staff , he would not let me out of the room and was a little overweight and kept… going side to side. The manager was right there. I now have anxiety going to all these pompous arrogant Jerks. even now I thought I found a good doctor but she gave me 1300.00 shots in which the insurance does not cover , and if you do not do her expensive in the hospital trigger points , she will drop you .My heart goes out to all the vitims that wrote in , sad to say austin only has about 5 pain managemnet doctors and some are grouped together , so if they are writing all these lies and your next doctor sees them get yiour records. because my next doctor told me he was so glad to get to know me because all these crazy doctors wrote some stories I could not beleive it. I honsetly thought maybe they forgot I was in the room. but no these doctos have a ego complex . its disgusting. Fight back and I hope we set up a website and bring it to the goverment the abuse we have to go through each month . yep id like to see the president wait in the office each month and hear their stories....

Dr. DuBois was an excellent doctor, but after the big practice Austin Pain Assoc. took over, patient care took a back seat to a mountain a paper work, rules and regulations, contracts that no one ever offers you a copy of, office staff that never smile, and a general atmosphere of distrust of the patient. Also, I was almost never able to see my doctor, and it did not matter weather you were just picking up a prescription, you still have to pay a copay as if its an office visit. Go somewhere else if this doesn't sound good to you.

Agreed to help me with my pain and then changed his policies after joining other doctors. His staff (because i never got to see him after my second visit 8 months ago) made no effort to let me know that his policies had changed in a timely manner. They waited til the absolute latest time and then cut me off from medication after getting me hooked. I was given incomplete instructions on how to taper off of the medication and I am still in misery from what they have put me through. The whole time they tried to make me feel like it was my fault and that they were not doing anything that was rotten when that is as nice as I can put it. I was given no withdrawal medicine along with an unbelieveably short amount of time to taper off. If you need to talk to anyone there it takes a minimum of 2 days to hear back. Since he joined with the other doctors at his office every aspect of my patient care was worse ultimately ending in kicking me to the street. I really feel like the actions of this… office are criminal at best. The cowardly use of office staff to send me away instead of being a man and telling me himself is infuriating and should not be legal.
