Dr. Curtis James Hagenau, MD

Terrible attitude. My wife went in struggling to deal with anxiety and depression and he made her feel less for these struggles. A pathetic excuse of a doctor.

I was "suffering" with many health conditions. Incoherent speech, slurring my words, extreme swelling head to toe, zero appetite excessive weight gain, shortness of breath, very clumsly and always very, very, cold. Dr. Hagenau discussed with me about my many health problems at the start of appointment, then I was asked to walk outside in the hallway. Dr. Hagenau observed that I was "drifting" side to side as I was walking. Dr. Hagenau said " I think you have a thyroid issue". Dr. Hagenau sent me immediately to the onsight lab for blood work.This was estimated at 3pm the next morning by 7:30am I was notified I had a prescription ready for Hypo-thyroid condition. My blood work indicated my blood count was 244 And normal count should be 3.5 to 5. After a few blood tests and dosage changes to my medicine...my blood is normal again. I am convinced I owe my good health, and my life to the GREAT care from Dr. Curtis Hagenau. Sincerely, Robert C. Adams

The staff was helpful and friendly. However, Dr Hagenau seemed to come to his conclusion before he heard me out. His diagnosis, while it could be accurate, seemed more of a dismissal from his office and he failed to explain to me how it can explain my symptoms. He offered zero support, except suggesting treatment for apparent assumed mental instability. His tone was never angered or outrightly unkind, but he was extremely overconfident and condescending. If he was truly confident in the diagnosis- he should have defended it by explaining its plausibility further. If he wasn't- he should have had enough integrity to disclose that and offer further testing should symptoms return. I will NOT be returning to this office. And, Godforbid these awful symptoms return, I will be seeing another neurologist. I left the office astounded and discouraged.

Thankful to have a doctor who was kind, patient with explaining all concerns and answering my questions. I highly recommend Dr. Hagenau. I cannot rate diagnosis as I have further testing to do.

HE IS THE TOTALLY WORST DOCTOR WHO EVER PRACTICED MEDICINE ESPECIALLY NEUROLOGICAL PATIENTS. I HAVE HAD PRAKINSONS'S FOR 12 YEARS. I WAS FIRST ASSIGNED TO DR WOODARD WHO TOOK VERY GOOD CARE OF ME AND PRESCRIBED THE MEDS I NEEDED AND HAD A GREAT BEDSIDE MANNER. TODAY I SAW DR. HAUGANAU AFTER HE HAD CUT ONE OF MY MEDS DOWN FROM 4 A DAY TO 1 - ONE A DAY??? I GOT WORSE SO TODAY WHEN I TOLD HIM ABOUT IT HE SAID "I FEEL YOU ARE TWISTING MY ARM TO GET MORE MEDS OUT OF ME"??? THEN HE SAID IF YOU LIKED THE FIRST NEUROLOGIST YOU SAW, HE IS PRACTICING IN SOUTH CAROLINA SO MAYBE YOU SHOULD DRIVE DOWN THERE TO SEE HIM??? RUDE, RUDE, RUDE!!! HE ALSO SAID SOMEHOW I FEEL LIKE YOU BEAT ME UP EVERY TIME I SEE YOU??? I AM JUST TRYING TO GET THIS JERK TO LET ME STICK TO THE PROGRAM THAT WORKED FOR ME FOR ALMOST 10 YEARS UNTIL I WAS SWITCHED TO HIM. HE IS TOTALLY VOID OF BEDSIDE MANNERS. A SMART ALECK, UNCARING JERK.. HE HAS NEVER EXAMINED ME FOR MY FLEXIBLILITY LIKE DR WOODARD DID. HE ONLY… SMARTS OFF TO ME IF I ASK FOR ANYTHING BUT WHAT HE WANTS TO GIVE ME. I AM NOT ASKING FOR ANYTHING MORE THAN I NEED TO LIVE AS GOOD A LIFE AS POSSIBLE!!! I ONLY TAKE 5 DIFFERENT MEDS A DAY WHICH I KNOW MANY PEOPLE MY AGE (89) WHO ARE ON UP TO 18 A DAY. I AM NOT BEING RUDE TO HIM, JUST TRYING TO GET THE HELP I NEED TO KEEP ME FROM GOING DOWN AS FAST AS I AM SINCE I STARTED SEEING HIM!!! I NEVER WANT TO SEE THAT JERK AGAIN EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dr. Hagenau takes all the time you need, explains things very clearly and understandably and I would recommend his to anyone!

My recent experience with this doctor was a shaky one. He was half listening to my symptoms and concerns and said my numbness and tingling was nothing out of the normal that others experience on a daily basis. He took the opportunity to pick out flaws in information I had gathered and never gave me any direction to go in to get the answers that I am seeking. At another visit, I brought my husband along and Dr. Hagenau commented that I was bringing in "the reinforcements" which was a very sexist thing for him to say. Overall, he is clueless on how to treat his patients. He is condescending, rude and belittles your intellect. If you want that kind of abuse, then he's exactly the doctor for you! Do your homework and read other reviews about him. Others seem to feel the same way. It pays to be picky because healthcare costs way too much not to be!

He seems like a gifted specialist, but his arrogance toward patients is really a barrier to his ability to effectively treat them

I received good medical care, I believe, but his professionalism and follow through are poor and the office staff are rude. Nashville has too many other excellent neurologists for a patient to select Hagenau.

I have been a patient for about 9-10 years. He is extremely smart which, of course, I appreciate. He's thoughtful of my time/money in how he develops plan of care. The office has worked me in several times when something new and concerning has arisen. I have referred several people to his office. I have felt rushed 1 time out of all of those years dealing w/them which I can understand schedule issues. None of us like that but it happens.
