Dr. Curtis Lee Lowery JR., MD

I lost a child at birth. 1 year later I became pregnant again after my gyno had told me it was impossible. I went to 4 different doctors that all told me to abort, they would not treat me. All doctors told me there wasn't a chance. Not believing in abortion, I went to dr. Lowery, at the suggestion of my mother who worked at UAMS. She had heard great things. Dr. Lowery took me in. All he said was "we're going to have a baby." Well we had a baby, 7 1/2 weeks early. The docors at the neo-natal said he would be slow and small, but he would make it. Dr. Lowery & pediatrician Dean Baldwin told me not to worry. 15 years later, my son is 6 feet 2, honor student, loves life and music. I just happened across his name today and felt bad I had not shared my story.

I was sent to Dr. Lowery because nobody in the Baptist medical system would touch me with a 10 foot pole. I was essentially told that if the pregnancy didn't kill me I should find hope in the fact they are doing great things with babies at 28 weeks. Dr Lowery was kind and calming and caring and spent time with my husband and me. I had ZERO of the problems that the "baby god" over at Baptist had spewed all over me and terrified me with. Every time I saw Dr Lowery he'd say, "Now why are you coming to see me again?" (Meaning I was having zero problems and a trouble free pregnancy) I felt so relieved and proud. It made it so much easier on me - I felt like I could relax and do a better job of "growing" my baby. You know what - I worked up to the day I went into labor and had her at 41 weeks. Had her vaginally and even did so well - I was even able to have another baby 2.5 yrs later. We had to get special permission from our insurance to go back to UAMS but it was completely worth… it to go to Dr Lowery again. Stephanie Wyatt his Advance Practice Nurse is exceptional as well. Kind, attentive, available (phone, cell, pager, email)- there wasn't anything I asked for that she couldn't or wouldn't help with. I also saw Dr Wendel a fair amount of times as well. Being that he wasn't my actual doctor, while that might not necessarily be ideal - but the nature of the baby business always requires a back up plan. I would highly highly highly recommend the Women's Clinic for high risk moms. Do try and get your appt as early in the a.m. as possible.

Dr Lowery did a great job of helping me through a pregnancy complicated by diabetes.
