I saw Dr. Shortell the first time about eight or 10 years ago for a varicose vein surgery. Personable and interested in me. I saw her again last year for two varicose vein surgeries. I gave her feedback about a problem with the administration of a pill to relax me before one of the surgeries, but it was given too late to have an effect in time for the surgery. Dr. Shortell appreciated me giving her that feedback, saying “you are the reason that we are here. And what you have to say is important.“ I recently gave feedback to another surgeon at another local hospital, because of major problems due to bad medical care. When I gave that other surgeon feedback, she did not want to hear it and almost tried to blame me the problem her people created that caused me a great deal of unnecessary pain and stress. Dr Shortell is wonderful!!!

Dr. Shortell's diagnosis of my situation prevented me from undergoing an unnecessarily risky operation. Her expertise and her ability to explain my condition, as well as the options, helped me make the best decision. I credit her with saving my life.

I had lazer vein surgery on both legs. I am in intense pain and have had a follow up with the PA who says he can refer me to a neurologist. I found the staff and Dr. Shortell do not provide adequate after care. I can say nothing positive. I trusted Duke hospital to have the best doctors. The vein clinic caused me harm and I am traumetized by my experience.

I've had nerve damage since my EVLT procedure. The Vein Clinic referred me to a neurologist.

Uncaring, unprofessional, and total disregard for patient well being, these are her strong points.

This doctor performed surgery on me. Not impressed at all.
