I cannot in good faith recommend this practice and supplier to anyone due to what I believe are deceptive and abusive billing practices, and its contributions to the ongoing epidemic in this country of healthcare cost waste, fraud, and abuse. First, there are two separate businesses operating out of the same location, both owned by the same person/people -- one for the healthcare practice and one for the durable medical equipment supplier. In my opinions, this easily creates confusion for patients, implying that the doctors are supplying the equipment, while in reality you can use anyone to get your equipment, similar to pharmacies filling prescriptions. Further, the costs that OSA (the DME provider) charge to insurance is dramatically higher than those for buying the same equipment outright. I found the exact same machine sent to me via UPS 2-day shipping, new-in-box, for less than 30% of what OSA charged my insurer. (Not only did they charge them the full retail price of the machine,… but also charged them an extra 50% on top of that for the humidifier that is built-in to the same machine, thanks to a loophole in what insurance companies can accept.) Be careful if they suggest that you can purchase your equipment outright from them; I found out from my insurance company that although my policy allows such purchases in full, they have a specific written contract with OSA that only allows monthly rentals, which end up costing more than outright purchase. The insurance company further explained that even after the "rent to own" period is up, OSA could take the machine back at any point and I wouldn't really own it. And further, I would be required to continue paying them twice a year for the rest of my life for a "maintenance agreement". I didn't agree to any of this when receiving the machine; they sent me out the door with a machine and no contract whatsoever, and no communication or expectation that I would be paying them for life. Since the machine was already unwrapped and set up when I walked in to get it, it's also unclear whether or not I got a "fleet machine" (look it up) because these DME places often sell the devices that are returned. I returned the machine as soon as I learned that what was going on, and that apparently this kind of behavior is an epidemic among DME providers. Further, the cost of the initial appointments and home study resulted in $1,630 in charges to my insurance company. The initial appointment was a casual chat about good sleep habits that are commonly found online, and (surprise surprise) a referral for a home sleep study. The data from the device they sent is uploaded to a service provider, and then you have to have another appointment for the person to read your number off that website and tell you whether or not it's higher or lower than the criteria for sleep apnea, and answer any questions you may have about how the machine works. Then then refer you (naturally) to their colleagues (in the other business here) that are responsible for selling/renting machines. I found a reputable provider online (who I won't name out of respect) who provide the same consultations virtually and the same exact model of home sleep study device for a total of $190 (12% of OSA's charges), which is entirely credited to the purchase of a machine. I would also add that they were extremely difficult to work with for scheduling. They have an online patient portal for scheduling, but when I tried to use the system to say I needed to reschedule my appointment due to a travel conflict, it didn't work, and then they didn't respond to multiple emails and portal messages trying to reschedule. They kept insisting I make a phone call when I told them I was available any time. They also did not respond to my online request for a copy of my written CPAP prescription, which I was able to obtain through other means. TLDR: Do your research before blindly accepting what they tell you to do, or better yet, go somewhere else. Check

I’ve never met a better doctor. Dr. Root is very knowledgeable in his field & is always willing to answer my questions & explain things to me (even over the phone). I never feel like he’s rushed which I’ve experienced with quite a few other doctors over the years. This is an excellent sleep study clinic. Everyone who works there is extremely nice & very helpful.

I've been seeing Dr Root for about 5 years...and at age 64, in all my years of seeing various doctors for different issues he is right at the top of the list for what a great Physician is. I see him twice a year for a sleep issue. From the moment he walks in the door I feel I have his full attention, he listens to the issues at hand, carefully and has a plan to counter any new changes in my disorder. He takes the time to listen, asks relevant questions, and most importantly, never rushes me out of the door like a lot of the "puppy mill" doctors these days seem to do. Being able to have a relaxed, informative (on both sides) discussion about my health issues means when I walk out of there I know I'm being well taken care of. I feel he is as concerned about my quality of sleep as I am and for that I am most appreciative.
