Dr. Darius Zagunis, MD

Dr Zegunis has a great bedside manner, but don’t expect good service from his staff. Don’t expect to be treated like you matter. Don’t expect a return phone call from ANYONE. In fact, don’t expect to leave a message after hours because their voicemail boxes are always full. I’m sure he has helped hundreds if not thousands of patients but I was not one of them. After 7 months, three procedures and a boat load of money, I am no better than before.

a year ago This office had a report that there was metastasis in my bones for 28 days and never notified me. When I asked why they failed to notify me, I was told that their receptionist that filed the fax report (which was sent stat) is “not medical”, so I guess you have to hope they don’t get faxes with your critically important information. Then I pointed out the radiologist documented he left a message with their answering service, I was told the radiologist should’ve known it was “after 5 on a Friday”. I guess that means it’s pointless to expect anything to work as it should if you don’t catch the “clinical” staff directly during weekday hours. The correct response would have been to simply apologize and accept responsibility for failing to communicate vitally important information. Instead, they never accepted any responsibility, choosing instead to blame the radiologist. I saw the staff here on several occasions due to irretractable back pain which started over two years… ago. I hoped to get relief from anesthetic injections but they did not work. This happens and I don’t blame them for that since sometimes, medicine doesn’t work as hoped. The nurse practitioner is nice, well informed and communicates well but did not acknowledge at all they/she bore any responsibility in dropping the ball on contacting me with this bad news. The physician took time before my first injection to provide information regarding my back diagnosis (prior to the metastasis being noted). The office staff is a problem.Several people in scrubs on staff there presented themselves as “nurses” but they were not. I posed a question to one of them and was given a full and absolutely wrong answer. That is dangerous. In addition to the office staff filing away reports with critical information without notifying the nurse practitioner or physician, their billing person is unreliable. They make sure to bill for services immediately but to get a receipt, I had to make 6 calls over a period of several months. I wrote this hoping that this team will re-evaluate the way they do things. If I had not had my yearly physical with my amazing internal medicine physician who is very thorough, I have no clue how much time would’ve passed before learning my back pain was (at least partially) secondary to cancer.

I was not told on any of my visits I had to have to have the pain at the time of the visit. On visit 5 I thought I was going to get a second pain injection in another area, as the first did not work, but instead it was to be in exploratory injection, and I was sent home again, as I did not have the pain at the time. Not going back for visits 6, and then 7 (when I might get a pain medication injection!) 2 hours round trip each time and high co pays.

Dr. Zagunis saw me on my first visit, after that his Nurse Practitioner saw all my follow up appointments and decided when my next injection would be. Then I would see Dr. Zagunis for the next injection and on and on it went for several injections

The best medical staff I have ever worked with. Dr. Zagunis was very detailed with information regarding procedure.

I went to Dr Zagunis today, and he is wonderful. He took all the time to answer my questions, an really seems to care. I trust this Doctor, and will recommend him to anyone. He is the Greatest.

My visit was a pleasant one. A courteous staff that seemed to care made feel at ease, and I actually feel like I'm on my way to being pain free.

Dr Z is compassionate, informative, and treats me effectively.

My official phone call to the office was pleasant and I was sure I would like this doctor to care for my mother. The second phone call I received I was not impressed, but I was hoping the lady was having a bad day. When we arrived at the office, we were NOT greeted with a smile, but rather a "I don't want to be here attitude". Then when my mother was called to the back, we were greeted with a cold don't talked to me assist. My mother is in a wheel chair and is unable to walk or do for herself, and she was told to provide a drug test, which I totally understand, however because of my mothers condition she is unable to control her bladder; therefore was unable to provide a drug test. We were told that if she did not pee in the cup the doctor would not see her, or if she didn't go by her appointment time we would have to reschedule the appointment. (I had taken off work to take her to the doctors apt) Additionally I had sent in all of her medical records 1 week prior to the appt. so the… doctor would know what was going on with her. When I questioned the assistant if the doctor had reviewed her records he said I don't think so. What frustrates me the most is 1. they should have some other alternative to drug test other than peeing in a cup. i.e. saliva test, etc. there are many other alternatives. 2. the lack of empathy the staff has for patients. (I can't say that for the doctor because we never saw him, but I would assume because he refused to she her he's the same way!) Needless to say I walked out of the appointment with all of my moms medical records and informed them I would find another doctor.

I have read many of the other reviews and totally agree with all their comments. Dr Zagunis is a Dr Welby and that is hard to find in this day and age. He doesn't rush you through your appointment and answers all questions totally honest. I don't feel like I have a time limit and I had better get there. Excellent doctor - have recommended him to my co workers.
