Dr. Darren Wayne Housel, MD

I don't normally do this but I want to warn other mom's. DO NOT GO HERE!! Seriously, if you care about your health and the life of your baby, find a different OB/GYN. I started seeing Dr. Darren Housel. This was my first pregnancy, so of course I did not know what to expect and all of the changes happening to my body were new. I was so sick and my symptoms kept getting worse. Instead of listening to my concerns and addressing them he would dismiss me and tell me it was just part of pregnancy. Long story short, I ended up being admitted into the hospital by Dr Housel's colleague Dr. Davis (who from the two appointments I had with him, was really good). At the hospital they found out that my baby had only a 2 vessel cord, plus they found 413 mg of protein in my urine from a 24 hour collection, I had really bad tachycardia, I had high blood pressure, I had really bad edema of my face and hands, a headache, blurred vision, and dizziness. Any pregnant woman reading this, or mom is probably… thinking the same thing right now, right? because that is all stuff we are supposed to look out for, right? Because these are all symptoms of preeclampsia, which can be fatal if left untreated for the woman and the baby. Well Dr. Housel informed me (before they even finished my 24 hour urine collection) that I did not have preeclampsia. When I asked him what the protein in my urine from the dip they had done could be from he acted surprised and said "you have protein in your urine?" I explained that yes, i had 2+ protein. he said that "well that could be preeclampsia, but I don't think you have it. I guess we will see." Which means that if it had been up to him, i never would have received the test. Then after my protein count came back high he once again informed me that I did not have preeclampsia. When I asked him how much protein in my urine would be indicative of preeclamspia, this man, no joke, this man who is supposed to be a medical doctor looked me in the face and told me I would need 5,000 mg of protein in my urine from a 24 hour collection in order to have preeclampsia. Guys, 300 or more mg is cause for alarm and is indicative of preeclampsia. I got diagnosed with chronic high blood pressure and got put on an extremely low dose of blood pressure medication then sent home. At this point, he did not have a treatment plan for me what so ever. He had not indicated any intention to see me more than what he had been (so once a month), he had not indicated the need for me to track my own blood pressure or anything. At this point I realized that my Dr. was either an idiot or he frankly didn't really give a crap about me or my baby. Neither one is a quality you want in a dr. especially and dr that will be delivering your baby. I realized that I was not going to be taken seriously, and I knew that there was more going on. I realized that in a very real sense my life and the life of my baby depended on me finding someone who would take my concerns seriously. I found a different OB. They found that I do have preeclampsia and they upped my medication, because the dose I was prescribed was not working. After taking my medication my BP was staying at 157/109 - 168/118. She is now monitoring me every week and I am being monitored at maternal fetal medicine every week. She is having me take my blood pressure at home 4 times a day to make sure that the medicine is working. She admitted me to make sure my preeclampsia was mild enough where I could stay pregnant a little longer. I would never, ever, recommend this Dr. to anyone and I wouldn't recommend this clinic either. There should be more steps being done to make sure their providers are not doing this kind of thing. I am baffled that I was ignored and dismissed for so long. I am also upset that they failed to catch the fact that my baby has a 2 vessel cord because I should have been put on baby aspirin at 16 weeks for that too. I will never be going here again. And I would suggest you stay away, go to Wasatch obgyn instead, all of their providers are really good. And the sad part is, there is so much more wrong with the quality of care. I could literally write a book about how Dr. Housel screwed up when caring for me and my baby.

Dr. Housel is the best dr I have ever been to. He delivered my first baby and is about to deliver my second. There is no doubt in my mind I get the best care when I see him. For all the reviews that say he doesn't care that's insane!i always feel like I am the center of his attention at my appointments. His calm personality is a huge bonus for me! I'm a over thinker and he calms me right down! I would never think about going to any other dr!!

Still telling patients that pregnancy cures endometriosis which is false... www.endometriosis.org Has the links to references which clearly state that it is not cured by pregnancy.

The best! I have had Dr. Housel for the last 8 years. He's funny and very professional. Makes you feel comfortable.

Doctor Housel is amazing! Never pressured me into anything about birth and spoke up for me!

Had serious pain went to instacare and to urologist both said to talk to the OB about surgery and his opinion. He was absolutely no help. Did not even look over reports from urologist or instacare. I went in because they felt his opinion was important and he would not even look at my ultrasound and blood results. He could care less about his patients and the children they carry. Would NEVER recommend him. I had to go in for surgery and he never called or would not even look at my results. Worst Ever!

I absolutely love dr housel he is been the best. This is my second child with dr housel as my prenatal /labor and delivery doctor and has treated me amazing I have recommended him to two other friends who have gone to him that also said the same thing and love him as well... i recomend him to anyone.... as far as others saying he blows off any of your concerns, i dont feel he blows of your concerns. He just doesnt make big deals and have u over worried (stress isnt good for babies) i love that he remains calm and professional . I do know when there is a problem with the pregnancy he handels it calmly and in a professional manner.....

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Housel! He saved my life when I was hemorrhaging due to my placenta growing into my uterus. Not only did he save my life but he is very personable has an incredible bedside manner. He always made me feel at ease and I was never worried. He is honest and straight forward with his patients and makes you feel at ease. I highly recommend Dr. Housel to any pregnant woman or for any woman's OB/GYN.

More concerned about his personal schedule than parents wants and needs. Good luck trying to get ahold of him

terrific Dr.; proffessional, but funny/personabl, spent adequet time--It felt like I was the only thing he cared about during my visit. I had to wait a bit to get an appointment--but well worth; I'm glad i have "my foot in the door" now--I may need him again
