Great doctor...wish I would have found him years ago

Dr Lovick is an excellent surgeon but even more than that he is one of the most patient focused physicians I have experienced. Both in office visits and while I was hospitalized he always had time for any question etc. He is now with the Shawnee Mission Hospital.

Dr Lovick is now at Shawnee Mission Hospital. Wonderful doctor, highly skilled and VERY patient oriented physician.

While I did appreciate the fact that Dr. Lovick got me in to see him quickly (within 2 weeks) I was less than impressed with the time he spent with me. My first appointment was scheduled for 30 minutes, but he only spent about 10 minutes with me. He oredered another MRI when I had already had one, and never explained why he was ordering it. I left feeling confused. I am older and realize I may require a bit more time and explanation, but believe when it is something as serious as neck surgery proper time should be given so the patient feels at ease. When I chedked out his scheduler seemed very busy and became annoyed when I asked questions. She said she was just his scheduler and couldn't answer my questions and suggested I call back once I got home to speak to the nurse. She seemed very put out. When she just picked a date for my MRI and I told her I couldn't do it that day she rolled her eyes! I was appalled. The entire office feels far too casual and doesn't focus on providing good… customer service. They are too rushed.

I would not recommend Dr. Lovick to anyone! After waiting for over 30 mins to see him I approached his staff and asked if he was even in the building. The assured me he was but he was running behind. After talking with a few other people in the waiting room I found out at least 2 others were booked for appointments at the exact same time I was!!! Who does that? Once in the room he rushed through my visit. I waited 43 minutes to see him and he spent 9 mins in the room with me. I never felt like he was listening, just waiting for his turn to talk. He recommended surgery but I'll never let him cut me open. Upon leaving his office I stopped in the restroom and could hear he and his nurse laughing and joking around. He should spend less time flirting with her and more time seeing his patients. Never again!

Dr. Lovick helped me when no one else would. I had a very bad experience with a previous neurosurgeon 3 1/2 years ago who after operating on me failed and refused to diagnose a failed fusion from a multi level fusion. Dr. Lovick not only agreed to see me, but after ordering the appropriate tests, immediately diagnosed the pseudoarthrosis (failed fusion), which has now been operated. I owe him my life...I would still be walking around with a fractured neck if it wasn't for his excellent skills. So please make an appointment with Dr. Darren Lovick at St. Lukes Neurosurgeons if you are considering cervical neck surgery and stay away from KU.

FABULOUS doctor! Dr. Lovick, along with a brilliant staff at North Kansas City Hospital, saved my daughters life. Follow up with St Luke's Staff was AWESOME. Can't thank them enough.

Dr. Lovick is extremely well-respected by his peers, and did an amazing job on my surgical fusion procedure. I recommend him to everyone!
