Dr. Darren Sigal, MD

He is the best doctor I ever had especially he does good diagnostics very knowledgeable about cancer and he referred me to another oncologist for second opinion.

No bedside manners, can be rude and abrupt.

Felt very comfortable talking with him, he explained everything very well. I understand it’s not a good situation for me, but I’m grateful to have Dr Sigal as my Doctor. Have always gotten a response right away when I’ve called with a question.

He is all over the place: Encinitas, La Jolla, Rancho Bernardo. I wish that he would stay in one place longer. My consultations with him occur on the same day as my chemotherapy, when I have chemobrain. Encinitas location is better than La Jolla. There has been confusion with the scheduling of appointments and labs. Sometimes he takes long time to respond to portal e-mail.

We found dr Siegel to be pleasant unrushed and upfront. He sent us for bloodwork and ordered the needed test. His office has also returned our calls in a timely manor. We love Scripps and would recommend Dr. Siegel .

Having been a cancer patient for years, I still feel that there isn't an ounce of genuine care from Dr Sigal. After follow up tests and scans, I never get the results back even after multiple calls. As an oncologist, one would need to have exceptional care and patience dealing with difficult circumstances and decisions every day. Not only does Dr Sigal not help, he often was the cause of added stress. Regrettably, I would not recommend Dr Sigal to anyone

Stomach cancer can be a death sentence. A friend has a chance to kick this in terms of her stage of stomach cancer. However, there is a possibility that this doctor has significantly lowered those chances due to him and his staff dropping the ball at every turn. The friends and family of this wonderful lady are now having to scurry to get the help she needs. Even the ER nurse told us 3 times that perhaps she should change doctors when she ended up there and therefore having to be admitted to the hospital. He nor anyone from his office has called to see how she is doing over a week later. If you use him, know that this is a DIY chemo operation. Read a lot before starting chemo so you can prepare yourself for what to do before and during to alleviate side affects. Call the Green hospital chemo staff yourself to get a check list of items to start before chemo and to have on hand. AND if you have any other medical conditions, don't expect that he will consult with your doctors to come up… with an integrated plan. IMPORTANT....ask to be tested for any particular genetic issue you might have before starting chemo. It currently is not part of the protocol and it is likely not mentioned until you have it and DIE or almost die because you have it. The doctor likely will not offer you the chance to pay for it out of pocket. Make sure you bring the same person to each appointment and one that is proactive.

Dr. Sigal seems to have the credentials. What he lacks is maturity, professionalism, and the ability to 'listen' to the patient. He is not able to connect with the patient or family. He belongs in research, not dealing with patients who are at the lowest point in their life. His arrogance is only surpassed by his rude behavior. Heaven forbid if you 'try' to present a different point of view. He takes it as criticism and acts like a petulant child and is not able to 'move on'. Scripps usually represents the best in physicians, but sadly, everyone gets short-changed if they have Dr. Sigal. Our family absolutely would not recommend him, and we agree with the other review...run the other way!

He is the worst doctor I have ever had and that's putting it nicely. I had a highly treatable/curable cancer and yet still felt stressed throughout treatment, largely due to dealing with this guy. His bedside manner was reprehensible. Some of the comments made to me during treatment were just astonishing. I was fairly young during my treatment and was too naive to say anything. However, if this guy had been treating me currently I would have sued him for malpractice. If you are referred to him for cancer treatment, politely decline and request someone,...anyone else.

Awful experience. Has no bedside manners at all. Consistently told me that I was going to die soon from my lung cancer. Only quoted stats and offered no hope whatsoever. Don't go to this guy if you have cancer.
