Dr. David Emmanuel Almond, MD

I was assigned David Almond as a physician by my insurance company because he was one of the few doctors accepting new patients in the area at the time. He seemed nice enough when I first met with him. I have a complex medical history and the more my symptoms challenged his incredibly limited skills, the more angry and neglectful he became. I have lupus and when the two rheumatologists that took basic referrals could not help he refused to advocate for access to the one competent rheumatologist in town (I have since seen her and she was horrified he let my lupus go untreated for nearly two years). I had a number of other symptoms including lung masses, an enlarged liver with constant pain in my ruq, and a headache that would not go away. He said there was no need to consider the lung masses and issue and kept telling me the ruq pain was just a strain and to roll a tennis ball on it. He suggested tylenol for the headache. He refused to treat pain and refused to file a referral for… a pain specialist. He became exceedingly angry when I challenged his poor care. When I was finally able to change insurance and got access to a competent doc, it turns out Almond missed lymphoma and the delay in care led to it metastasizing to my liver and brain (waiting on the lung tests to come back). His incompetence coupled with his refusal to send off referrals led to deadly consequences. He should be banned from healthcare. Avoid at all costs!!!

I saw Dr. Almond for about two years. I have a difficult to diagnose condition. I went in with my records from the past three years of trying to find a dx. He attempted some basic bloodwork. At that point, things fell apart. His staff were so incompetent that when a specialist faxed and called 6x requesting medical record information they failed to do so. I complained that his staff's incompetence was interfering with care. He shrugged. As the case became more complex, he became more combative and unwilling to do diagnostic work. He has no comprehension of mental health issues, and even missed noting I had a mental health condition I was being treated for in our first three appts. It only registered when I told him a prescription was counterindicative for me. As more evidence appeared that the issues I had been asking about that he kept telling me were "nothing" and to live with it, he became more reluctant to do anything. Ultimately when I asked what I could do to help him… see me as a person, with a body with many systems working together for health at more than a single point in time, he found it too challenging and refused to see me again. He may be great for splinters and pink eye, but avoid if you have any difficult medical conditions, things which affect mental health, or happen to be female. His is not trained or prepared for those cases.
