Dr. David Wilbur Chen, MD

Average hold time for any needed help from scheduling staff at MGH is 1.5 hours. In Person Dr. Chen ignored my attempts to discuss the pain he was inflicting, said things that were possibly meant as humorous but came across as insulting, insensitive and condescending. Did not inform me of all possible effects before treatment, despite claiming he had in notes. Pain may be inevitable, but nobody needs to add to it or cause any unnecessarily. I hope I can find an alternative; I never want to see this person again.

Tone deaf, nasty person who made me feel worse after a joke of a virtual appointment. Mean spirited, egotistical jerk. Avoid.

I think this doctor is a psychopathic overachiever type. He knew what was wrong with me before he looked at me and knew zero about my history. I was referred to him by the emergency room at MGH for a seizure. He treated me like I was making an appointment for no reason and wasting his time.

This doctor is an ableist. If you have cognitive problems, avoid him.

One of the coldest medical professionals I have ever met. When I had suicidal side effects from a medication he prescribed me for chronic migraine, he failed to reply to my calls or emails for days. His office staff guilt tripped me for calling and emailing so much to try and get his attention. When I finally got in to see him, he shamed me for not knowing what to do about the medication on my own (as if I have gone to medical school) and he dodged all responsibility. He did not apologize or show any empathy.

Follow up is nil...had I known, I never would have made an appointment. I didn't wait 2 months to see the doctor once and never again.

Awful patient follow up, rushed, uncaring, rude, stay away

Seen for migraine consult. I followed the suggestions he had. Was never contacted to set up the pet. Portal follow-up visit. I had a major side effect to one of the drugs he prescribed i.e. I could not form words or speak clearly. Dr. Chen was paged 3 times with no response. I went to the ER instead. The following day, he had no response to why he didn't answer his pages. He also wanted me to stay on the med that caused those symptoms. My recommendation: stay far, far away!!

Dr Chen has been my neurologist to treat chronic migraines for the past 15 years and he has helped me find solutions to a difficult illness. He recommends and helps plans from medication, exercise, and nutrition/diet. I like how he answers my questions on any latest article or treatment I hear about and together we discuss the pros and cons. I wish the hospital would make the waiting room a nicer and a more relaxing setting but my actual visits with Dr Chen have been all good. The two assistants I have worked with in the past few years to arrange appointments have been wonderful, accommodating, and understanding.
