Dr. David Mckay Chisholm, DO

I had a very normal pregnancy, no complications, nausea or any issues up until birth. My gynecologist, David Chisholm, of 10 years delivered the baby and it all turmoiled. My contractions began around 3am and baby was out by 8a, thus relatively short labor. My husband and I were at the hospital around 4a, and I was 4cm dilated and after the epidural, I was fully dilated and just waiting on the doctor to come. In the room, it was him, 2 nurses and my husband. During my pushing, an issue happened with reading the baby’s monitor and the only nurses he had left to get tools. Of which, doctor had my husband open jelly to put on me to try to read the heart rate a different way. My husband was not in any sterile PPE, not even gloves. The doctor then decides to use a vacuum? I’ve never heard of this tool and if I had known the issues would it later cause, I would’ve stopped the use. Dr Chisholm said can I use this, didn’t explain why, what it did and repercussions it would cause down the road… before using it. He had to also perform an episiotomy to fit the vacuum, didn’t ask for my consent (illegal). I wasn’t offered to sit in a new position or try anything else. While my baby was only 6lbs and 12oz, this cut resulted in me having a fourth degree tear, the worst tear possible, tearing into my sphincter muscle and rectum (worse than c section - he claimed otherwise). This has hindered me from walking, in constant pain and cannot sit up right to breastfeed and resulted in my baby being forced to use formula. I am now day 10 postpartum, still can hardly produce milk for my baby, I cannot go anywhere for longer than an hour because I have to be home to use the restroom to clean myself right after with a perineal bottle/shower. If I have to have a bowel movement, I cannot hold it in, indicating bowel incontinence. On top of this, 5 days after my tear, I started feeling massive stabbing pain. I couldn’t walk anywhere. I forced myself to Dr. Chisholm’s office for a check up. He said I looked fine (put his finger in my rectum 5 days after fresh stitches). That night, foul smelling blood was coming from my back area. I had made an appointment with a colon specialist and within seconds he said it was all infected as I speculated. He put me on augmentin. I left a message for Dr Chisholm stating I did have an infection and he called and left a message stating: ”You did not have an infection. That doctor is wrong and doctors over prescribe antibiotics. You can take your antibiotic and probably get a yeast infection.” This is a medical professional leaving a condescending message after ruining my quality of life and bonding time with my first baby. Of which, the best he had to say was - at least your baby is healthy. I went for a second opinion from a rectal surgeon who confirmed my infection was healing. He stated my muscle was cut into and I would probably have incontinence issues as I age since muscles do not heal but scar over. His face was extremely distraught when I said I had a 4th degree tear for a small baby and would need 3 month recovery. Dr. Chisholm told me would only be 6 weeks to heal and “not to believe every thing I read on the internet”, meanwhile this will take 3 months of healing and every doctor has stated so. In addition to the medical pages online. I want to pursue action against him for having my husband assist in labor without sterile PPE, for performing episiotomy without my consent, for stating my tear was 3rd degree when it was 4th, for not informing me about the repercussions/aftermath of using a vacuum which lead to my massive tear, for now having to use formula for my baby due to mass delays in breastfeeding which was caused by the tear, paying for specialist doctors appointments, incontinence issues which will be lifetime. Also I will now be forced to do C sections which will cost way more money in the future, I will be prone to fissures and fistulas which require surgery. Dr Chisholm and should be held accountable for my future issues and c sections in the future.

I walked into Banner Hospital expecting a wonderful delivery and ended with massive tears to my body, not being able to enjoy or even feed my first born, and have made endless doctors appointments - leaving my son alone with my husband to take care of the baby on his own. And the worst - I have to carry a perineal bottle everywhere I go. I need a cushion to sit down. And if I need to use the bathroom, I have to shower myself to keep it clean so I literally can’t go anywhere without feeling embarrassed. I hope your actions sit well with you. I was a very normal and healthy woman and you took it upon yourself to ruin my life. And did not give one care that you did. This will be reported.

At first I was so nervous to have a guy doctor deliver my second child, but Dr. Chisholm was amazing. He made me feel comfortable and safe. My second pregnancy was really rough and he was there every step of the way with me. Now I am excited to have him again to delivering my third child. Thank you Dr. Chisholm for everything you do!

Absolutely LOVE this man-He is an amazing Dr-I would love to keep him to myself but I recommend him to EVERYTONE

Dr Chisholm was the best. I am so sad I don't live in the state anymore so have him deliver my next child/be my dr through the pregnancy again. He was very relaxed, down to earth, knew exactly what he was talking about and answered every question I had. He made sure I felt comfortable with every step. He also took his time and did his best to make sure I had as little tearing as possible (which I definitely appreciated) Awesome dr. I was hesitant about having a male gyno, but me made myself and my husband comfortable in an otherwise awkward situation. I would recommend him to anyone in the area

Dr. Chisholm is a great gyno, I have gone to him for over a year now, for several different procedures performed by him. I've had two pap smears, an STD test and an IUD insertion and every procedure has been fast, gentle and almost painless. Most of the time he's done before I even think the procedure has started. Even the IUD insertion hurt about as much as getting my ears pierced, and it was done in under 3 minutes. He's like a cervical ninja. However, if you want to talk to a doctor about something, or have any questions or need to be reassured, book another doctor. It usually takes longer to get undressed than it does for his whole procedure time, and he's usually already out the door before you can get a question in. He always seems like he's in a rush (but not like he's overlooking or ignoring anything) and that he just wants to get in and get out. I don't know if he just isn't one for conversation, but I have a feeling that if he could have one hand on the speculum and the other… on the door knob, he would. I don't know if it's because I'm not pregnant or because he has more important patients, but he definitely likes to keep it brief.

I think dr.chisholm is a awesome doctor.....he did my cesarian with my son in 2009 & now im having a baby girl & im due this month & getting another cesarian & I think hes the best! hes the only dr I trust to do it :) so if you need a gynocologist hesperfect for you!

i had this dr with my first pregnancy and at first he came off very rude to me, he seemed to be rushing me out of the appointments and felt pressured on time to ask questions.As my pregnancy went along he became more accomodating or maybe comfortable idk and he started listening to me a little more. one thing is he always seemed truly caring if i had any concern. He was a great dr overall and delivered my healthy son. if i could i would go back to him but i live way too far from his office now :(
